When I had my sons first birthday I just had family over to open presents and eat cake. I dont think a one year is going to understand that they have to hit a pinata maybe not even know how swing at it. In my opinion it would be kind of a waste of money to have a pinata if your daughter can't even hit it. I hope this helps.

A party would be nice, but since your daughter is only turning 1, there is no need for petting zoo's and pinatas and such. Cake for your guests, usually family and friends and a small cake for your daugher to tear into on her own. It would be nice to do something just the 3 of you maybe on her actual birthday. Your daughter wont remember this birthday, but its memories for you as parents, and all of the family and friends that you choose to invite. It definatly doesnt have to be over the top at this age.
