My 20 month DD has only just started weight bearing on legs last few days, before this she refused. She's been tested etc there's nothing wrong, however I need some encouragement.
I feel extremely selfish for feeling frustrated that she isn't walking yet, but she understands quite a lot, obviously at 20 months but as she is only crawling everything is so limited! Going outside is pretty much a nightmare, and that's all she wants to do, which would be fine but if everything is wet, it's hard to let her on the ground, parks are out of the question cause she can't really go on anything except the swing, at the shops she could get out of the stroller if she were walking,
Just everything little thing is so difficult cause mentally she's almost 2, but physically only crawling!! She throws massive tantrums when I say she can't go outside just yet, and she will settle for a while but then it's back to wanting to go outside :( please help! What did you do with late walkers? How did you get by? What kind of places did you go or activities did you do? How did you keep them inside at certain times when not appropriate for them to be on ground? Yikes sorry for massive post! Just one anxious mommy, not looking forward to another day of not looking forward to the day ahead :(

Thanks for your reply. I only meant, in regards to mentality, it's very different for a baby of 6 months crawling and keeping them entertained to a 20 month old who knows a lot more but just can't understand exactly why they can't do certain things. Anyway I have been standing her up, so that's a start :)

First things first: mentality of the child DOES NOT matter. Not to be rude or anything, but She could be 25 mentally, but if she is in an infant body she will do what the body allows her to do. Some babies, are just late walkers. What helps is if you hold the baby in a standing position, have the baby move their legs a bit. Getting them used to standing is what comes first, and when their body is ready they will walk. Hope this helps.
