My son is about 3 1/2 months old. My question is this: how many ounces should he be eating per feeding (he's formula fed)? I know every baby is different, but I'm really not sure how much to feed him. He's 16 pounds already, so I feel like I've been feeding him too much!! :( I feed him anywhere from 4-6 ounces per feeding (more like 4-5 ounces because I'm worried 6 is too much) & every 3-4 hours. I usually try to keep his daytime feedings to the 4 ounce bottles & then his bottle before bed is a 5 ounce bottle, but every day is a little different depending on circumstances. I really try to keep him on a schedule where he eats about every 3 hours (6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, then his bed time bottle at 9pm---it just depends on when he wakes up, etc but if he gets off that schedule I'll try & work it so we can get back on track to around those times) Soooo...am I feeding him too much? Too little? Too often between feedings? Please help.

It sounds like you are doing an awesome job :) I would say if he is happy and content then you are feeding the right amount. If he seems fussy and hungry still give a little more....sometimes it might just be one bottle that is an extra ounce or sometimes an extra ounce for all bottles. Babies will go through growth spurts where they tend to eat more or more often for about a week or so and then slow down after that spurt passes. Sleeping tends to also follow that pattern......so for a week or so they sleep more and then for a week or so they eat more :) Like a bear they store up as they hibernate. :) If he is getting fussy or playing with his bottle before all his milk is gone then it may mean he is full.

Thank you! He has never really cried or fussed after a bottle (maybe a few times, but the cry/fussiness lasted like 30 seconds). And he does like to 'play' around with his bottle sometimes---but that's usually during the entire feed if he does it---he's always swinging his hands around, lol. Or sometimes he'll hold the bottle. I really don't know if any of that means he needs/wants more, etc...and I don't want to feed him too much & make him fat. :( Is 4-6 ounces normal for a 3 month old? Do you think 6 ounces is too much?

I mean, my thinking is that if I keep him on this 'every 3 hours' feeding schedule then I can give him the 4 ounce bottles at his daytime feedings & then just to hold him over at night give him a 5 ounce bottle at his bedtime feeding. However, if his wake-up time is a little bit later than usual & causes that schedule to be off, I'll give him 5 ounce bottles until he gets back on track because we usually end up having to wait more towards the 4 hour mark (since he's getting less bottles I give him the extra ounce) to get back to his 'normal' schedule.
