4 year old acting out for attention

Let me start off my saying I'm 8 months pregnant and watch my boyfriends two boys (7 &4) full time ( their mom is out of the picture completely) the 4 year old has major attention issues . Always interrupting me or him when we are talking even if he has nothing to say hell say something like I love you or can I have a hug or do you like purple . I have to mention he's a highly intelligent 4 year old he rarely throws fits or anything like that. He will do ANYTHING for attention . Today while I was on the phone I could see him trying to get my attention out of the corner of my eye and when I looked over he was pouring chocolate milk on the carpet when I asked him why he did it he told me ... He slipped . I know by spanking him I am just giving in to his attention seeking behavior so what do I do? I am terrified to have my baby around this kid ... What's going to happen when I am feeding her and I CAN'T give him attention? I'm afraid hell hurt my baby to get attention

Well I haven't seen the child so I can't say for certain that he is or is not normal, but the three things you mentioned him saying when he interrupts you are the three things I hear most out of my 4 year old's mouth when he wants to join in the conversation. A 4 yo does not yet understand how to lead in a conversation, but they certainly want to be included. Often I will tell my son that I need to finish my conversation and then he can tell Daddy (because Mommy already knows) about his day. He LOVES being included. Also, a 4 yo understands that he doesn't have tell the truth and often has a wild imagination to aid in these lies (although the child may get so caught up he believes it to be true). About feeding the baby, maybe you could try to engage him while you are feeding her, perhaps by reading him a book while doing so.
