5 month old no longer sleeping well

My little boy is 5.5 months, and HAD been sleeping through the night (7 PM to 5-5:30 AM) since about 3 months. However, in the past 3 weeks(ish), he has been waking frequently- midnight, 2 AM, 3:30 AM, 4:30 AM, and it's almost impossible to get him back to sleep after 4:30, even after nursing him. He did have an ear infection for about a week, but it's been 2 weeks since that, and he's still not sleeping. I've tried sleep training again, but it didn't work the first time (he just started sleeping longer on his own) and he's a "spirited" baby, so he just cries and cries until I get him. Usually I can just give him a paci and he'll fall right back asleep, but sometimes I have to rock him. I don't nurse him until the 4:30 AM wakeup. Could he be hungry? Teething? Growth spurt? He eats plenty during the day (16 oz at daycare, 5 oz right before bed, plus nursing 3-4 other times per day), and we have also started giving him oatmeal in the evenings. He isn't swaddled any longer (has not been since before this whole ordeal started), and room temp is around 70, so he doesn't seem to be too hot or cold. There have been some nights where he has slept until 4 AM without waking and will go back to sleep until 7 after nursing, but others are just terrible. He isn't a great napper (3 45-minute naps during the day)- could he be overtired with all of the increased activity during the day? Help!!! I am a working mom and seriously need some shut-eye...

My baby goes through stages like this quite often and also will cry until held, I just go with her flow and eventually she'll get back into her usual routines. Treating yourself to a nap if you can will help with the lack of sleep even 5 mins can make a difference. Sorry I can't offer any help thought you might benefit to know your not alone
