My daughter just turned 6 months old, but has been having constipation problems for a while already. Her doc just tells me to give her a laxative twice a day. But once she stops taking it she gets constipated and her stool is hard. She cries in pain. Any suggestions? Formula change?
She drink similac total comfort for discomfort.

Try flaxseed oil! You can add it to formula. If baby is eating cereal add ground flaxseed just like a quarter tsp or so start with a small amount the insoluble fibre will help. cereal is soluble fibre and it absorbs fluids and it can dehydrate the colon and cause constipation. Laxatives can make your colon lazy and dependant. Fibre is something your body naturally needs. Also dairy based formula can sometimes be a culprit. Hope this.helps
