Does anyone know exactly what an 8 month old is supposed to be eating and how much?

I've got an 8 month old daughter and am also curious as to how much other babies her age are eating. I've been reading "What to Expect the First Year" and it says to avoid:

*nuts/peanuts

*chocolate

*egg whites

*honey

*cow's milk

It also says that "nutritional requirements are still being filled with breast milk or formula. They should be dabbling in solids."

Eden's routine is:

breakfast: fruit and rice cereal or oatmeal / 6-8 oz. bottle

lunch: meat and/or veggies/ 6-8 oz bottle (not always right after her meal)

snack: banana or something in her munchkin feeder (check them out if you haven't already)

dinner: veggies and/or meat *sometimes rice cereal or dessert*/ 6-8 oz bottle

throughout the night: 1 - 6-8 oz. bottle (sometimes)

I find that if I give her rice cereal before bed she sleeps longer.

Each feeding she usually only eats one jar of stage 2 baby food. She doesn't have any teeth yet so I'm not feeding her stage 3's yet.

I don't/haven't prepared my own baby food in my food processer yet. I plan on it once she can eat/handle larger pieces and thicker solids. Her teeth are starting to come in so maybe I'll start soon.

Quoting Janet:

Feel her out on how much she'll eat.

I usually pour about 1-1.5 oz. of her bottle into a bowl and then add the rice cereal until it makes a consistency to that of baby food.

She confuses me sometimes. For Breakfast At first I was doing 2 tbsp or rice cereal mixed with formula and fruit, then a 2-4 oz bottle. It would vary with her. It was almost like that was to much for her. Then I went down to 1 tbsp. so she would drink her bottle. This is what I did this morning and she ate and drank well. But like I said it is different every week. Is there a certain amount of rice cereal a baby is suppose to have as well as bottlles and fruit and veggies. I read so many different things I get confused. I just want to make sure she get enough for the day. Her bottles would be 16-20 oz. a day. And she does a jar of veggies and a jar and a half of fruit. I started to try meat such as turkey rice and she seems to like it. It is almost like all she would be doing is eating all day just to make sure all gets in her diet.

every baby is different, but my son was nursing about every 4 to 5 hours and eating some rice cereal and starting on vegitables.
