My Daughter is going on 9 months now but has been constipated on and off for the last 3 months, poor thing strains herself to go now , so far prunes work but only if they are giving every day, but now i think she is starting to associate food with pooping, and so she isnt wanting to eat . We have been trying to sneek prunes into pablem and other things but she is one smart cookie. I have also heard that apples and pears work too but i havnt seen it work so far. I would love to hear any suggestions !

My son had the same problem at that age - and he still does sometimes, he is now 5 years old. I've always gave him Gerbers White Grape Juice - it works wonders and he will still ask for it too this day if he begins to have problems. Apple products can be constipating to some children - my son was one of those. I've tried everything before and had the best luck with the grape juice for a daily basis remedy and mineral oil / karo syrup for a quicker effect. The grape juice can also be diluted with water and still works just as well.

My daughter had constipation problems a lot and what really worked for her was adding a small amount of Karo syrupto her bottles (about a teaspoon per 2 ounces).  I even asked the Dr. and they said that was fine.  It worked wonders!

I'm definately not an expert, but it could be food related, I would see the doctor. Till then, put a gob of vaselin on her bum to help what comes out.

Pear juice works very well. I would water it down a little but I swear by it. I give my daughter pear juice about every three days to kep her regular. We have had constipation problems since she has been 6months and this has worked the best. If this doens't work there could be an underlying problem and I would bring her to the doctor.

Thank you all for your suggestions, i will try them , we had gone to the doc and he had recomended a suger water type medicine but it didnt seem to have much affect either. i just tried the prune juice in the bottle and it seems to be working, i will try with more fruits , she does love eating bread so that might be a problem too so ill try to cut it out and see if it makes a differnce

My daughter was always constipated and then we took her to the doctor, they told me to give her one teasppon of mineral oil and then bam she was going! Don't try this unless your doctor tells you to but thought this would be something to bring up in the next visit. Also I have tried Karo light syrup and that worked wonders for my son.

My daughter Chloe is 13 months old and started having "pooping issues" when we switched her to whole milk. The doctor told me to modify her diet before we try anything else. She ended up needing around 4oz of prune juice a day (diluted with water). I also give her the gerber stage 2 apples and prunes and that has a better tase than the straight prunes. Try giving her prune juice out of her bottles. My daughter wouldn't drink it from a sippy cup, but would from a bottle....weird little girl =). Just give her lots of foods that are high in fiber. Just make sure that you keep her hydrated!!! Lots of water! Fiber needs water to break down the doo doo so it's easier to pass. If there isn't enough water it makes it ever harder. Hope that helps you some!

Use prune juice to mix her pablum and that might trick her more. Also look at what else you are feeding her...bananas can make her constipated as well as bread and starchy things. Adding more fruit to her diet should also help reduce constipation and cause less strain when pooping too.
