Just be patient! This is the hardest part...waiting. I had baby #1 induced due to ruptured membrane after 24hrs. Baby #2 I was 10 days over and I wanted her out so agreed to an induction...didn't need one. Baby #3 I didn't do anything special and he came day after my due date at home with my midwife present. Babies come on their own time. Mommy's are impatient & so are Dr's usually.

Hi Tonya, both my boys were happy to stay put so i tryed everything unfer the sun to help bring on labor. Remember though, regardless of what you do, if the baby is just not ready to be born then nothing will really work exept time... Many women, myself included just carry babies for longer- 42 weeks on avearge for me, and that is ckmpletely normal and in most instances perfectly safe. Many hospitals like to indude women anywhere from 3-11 days overdue. Their is very little evidence to suggest letting a woman go up to 14 days overdue is unsafe, you may want to be checked a little more closely during this time however. Your baby will vome when he/she is good and ready, and the risks of bring induced before 14 days generally far out weigh the benefits (in normal healthy pregnancies). I would be upfrount and proactive to your midwife and state uou are happy to wait till bubs is ready!! As far as what you can do, you can get accupuncture induction- well worth a try, homeopathics csn be VERY effective (you will want to go to a trained practitioner for both of those things), sex, walking, streach and sweep (by your midwife), and like i said, time!! Goodluck and i hope you go into natural labor.

I tried all of those! I tried drinking castor oil, walking, going on a bumpy car ride, having sex... None of them helped me. LOL. I think when the baby wants to come, that's when they come!

For my first I think it was sex that ended up breaking my water at 37 1/2 weeks. With my second I lost my plug and started early labor soon after walking up this huge set of stairs on a trail that we walk. I was 38 1/2 weeks. Although this won't help you now, for your next pregnancy you could consider using evening primsrose or borage oil on your cervix when you reach 37 weeks. I think this helped ready my cervix considerable. Also I used 5w herbal formula at 35 weeks to help prepare my body but it can be controversial so I'd check with your doc first.

Spicy food and fresh pineapple worked for me. Then once I started active labor, walking helped me dilate more. There's also several pressure points on the body that can induce labor. I heard the feet hold the most powerful spots :) Good luck!

Go to a massage therapist and get a massage. They will know where to massage to put you into labor. There is a trigger point just under the ankle. I had one with my 4th and I went into labor and had him the next day. On his due date. I don't know if you will be able to find a therapist willing to do it but it's worth a try, and why not get a massage just before giving birth. We all deserve that.

I honestly tried EVERY labor induction method there was. Even Castor oil and it didn't work! I had to get induced cause I was 2 weeks over due! Just let your baby come when it's ready. It will come!

I drank rasphberry tea, ate some really spicy salsa and chips, had sex (on top) and took a slow paced long walk. Most of all relaxed alone with some calming music. I was in labor two hours after all this...two days before due date. These were all suggestions from my doctor. Hope this helps.

I think try CASTOR OIL - defo...But not too much

I was one day over due,and couldnt wait anymore so I TRIED it ,first I TRIED everything else, like on a trampoline,jumping-they say that moves the baby down, didnt work for me,even tried walking, sex , everything untill castor oil,and nothing else but that worked,I TOOK it the morning, afternoon and night, about 2 tablespoons, then the next eveing by 7pm,my labour pains had started and my son was born the next day at 1 in the afternoon,on the 1st Feb 2012,and he was due the 29th of Jan..

Hope this help, and please only try this if you are ready for labour.

Raspberry Leaf Tea can be found at "better" grocery stores. Here in TX it is sold at Central Market and Whole Foods, as well as many herbalists. Yes you have to make it from tea bags, but it is simple. It worked for me and is good for overall uterine health.

I was induced first time. It was hell on earth. It was really the only thing I absolutely didn't want with my second labour. I tried walking &excercise but was ultimately induced because my waters were broken this time around I was strep (?) Pos & just wasn't moving fast enough. It wasn't great but of course the end result of a beautiful baby boy was. My advice is to try all the great suggestions that you & your midwife are comfortable with but prepare yourself as best you can mentally in case you are confronted with another inducement. You are in control & have the last say on what medical treatment & when. I believe the first birth may not have been so traumatic if I hadn't been given a second lot of drugs to hurry me up because of the hospital's schedule. I had the all clear on my swab so in hindsight would have at minimum delayed any more inducement drugs. It came on so fast my body although stimulated could just not keep pace. For any prospective mum please remember you are allowed to say "No, not yet thanks." I have a very positive feeling for you. I think just as you resign to the fact it will be an inducement baby will suprise all the staff & say "Now!" Good luck

Castor oil causes majour cramping and diarrhea. And it only works sometimes. So, you would be having those cramps. And if it does work, you would be cramping AND contracting. Not a pleasant idea.

But, some things have been proven to work and nurses like to use them to move things along. Walking is a huge one. Walk as often as you can.

Sex works by releasing oxytocin into the cervix. Which is one thing they use to induce labour if it is not progressing or you are late.

Spicy foods is an alternate for castor oil. It starts with contractions, but without that cramping. Also it helps reduce chances of ulcers.

I was told scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees helps induce. Never worked for me, but others swear by it. My Grandma said it was what got her kids going.

Jumping helps too. I was told by my doctor that jumping is safe as long as you don't over do it.

I tried everything with my son this year and nothing worked. I started actual contractions about 30 minutes after my 41 week check up internal.

He came when he was ready I guess.

Hope something works for you!!!

I took Evening Primrose oil gel caps. Took one by mouth and inserted two in my vagina at bedtime(midwives suggest this method). This causes cervix to thin, and contractions to grow stringer and closer. I went into labor in the middle of the night. I was due on July 6th with my 3rd daughter and had her July 2.(this method is safer than using castor oil, which could cause the baby to have a bowel movement in utero).

Walking helps you dialate and thin out since your putting alot of pressure down there, and rasberry tea leafs works WONDERS. I drank two whole pitchers in 24 hrs and less than 4hrs after I finished it off I was admitted into the hosp in labor. TRY IT. lol

Walking and sex def help. I never tried these, both my kids came before I got the chance, but I read pineapples and raspberry leaf tea help. DO NOT use castor oil. It will bring on bowel movements, which can help bring on labour, but it can also bring on a bowel movement for your baby in the womb~which would be very bad. Hope something works!!!
