my almost 5 year old just started wetting the bed- she has NEVER had this problem. even when being potty trained she didnt ever pee in the bed like this or at least it was dry by the time she woke up. no life changing events have occured and she is in good health... what could this be-just a phase?

Hey during one of my university courses this issue was brought up and the professor was saying that sometimes the child's bladder doesn't grow as fast as they do so they end up having more accidents at certain periods in their life. I would definitely check into though make sure all is ok with her, and I am glad Tera mentioned the frightening possibility of sexual abuse which I'm really hoping it is not as we all want to protect our children it is best to know all possibilities

it could also be a sign of type 1 diabetic. i have a friend their son showed no signs of sickness or anything different except wetting the bed and then one day he was really sick all the sudden and come to find out thats what he had.

I don't want to alarm you, but this can also be a sign of sexual abuse. I would agree that taking her to the dr would be a good idea. Have them rule out UTI and they'll be able to see down there and rule out abuse as well. It could very well just be a phase also! Best of luck!

My daughter is a heavy sleeper and still has an issue. The DR said to me before it could be an allergy or as the other mom said below could be a UTI. I would take her in to the DR just to rule out the UTI. OTher then that just might be a phase! Good luck! I am still having trouble with my daughters bed wetting.

My son did the same thing when he was four years old. Out of nowhere started wetting the bed. We had to take away drinks right before bed and he absolutly had to pee right before bed no matter how much he said he didnt have to go and after a couple weeks he stopped. We also made sure to leave his door open at night and a night light on in the hallway that way he had easy access to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Hope this helps. Good luck!

get a mattress protector to save your daughter the embarrassment of you airing out the mattress (if you do that and don't have one already).
i wet the bed for 2 or 3 months when i was 8 coz i thought something under my bed was going to eat me if i got up, so it could be anything.

Although accidents CAN happen, this could also be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection. Wait and see if it happens more often during the week and decide if you want to take her to see her pediatrician to get tested.
