I am an anxiety prone person. I was taking medication before I became pregnant, but weaned off as soon as I found out. My son is 5 months old and the anxiety seens to get worse and worse. I am very obsessive compulsive, especially when it comes to the baby. I like things to be "just so" and I even consciously try to control my feelings without success. I am still breastfeeding and don't want to stop. Is there anything that I can safely take? I was thinking about St John's Wart because I read online that it was safe to take while breastfeeding. I would like to try that before any meds. Please help me find the calm again.

Most medications are safe to take while breastfeeding. Very very little of the medication actually gets to your milk, because it needs to be bound to a protein to get there.

Check this website out- you can enter your drug and read the info regarding it and breastfeeding:

Aromatherapy works wonders for stress and all you have to do is breathe it in. Find something that is soothing for you, depending on what safety you need you could either buy a candle, potporri, bubblebath, or one of those plug-in things.

try to get it as natural as possible though, I have completely taken over my fiances shampoo at the moment since it has a beautiful aloe smell to it and with the hotwater the smell fills the bathroom fast.

This way you dont have to worry about it going into your baby's system except if he breathes it in (which is why I say find something that is close to or all natural)

You can also go to a wellness food store where they sell herbs, but you will need to get a second opinion just in case (sometimes you may end up getting someone who doesnt fully know if its safe or not)

Meds never worked to help my anxiety (actually made me worse) I have found things that helped me relax a bit. its all a matter of trying things until you find something you can learn how to relax to.
