we live on a dairy farm and always haxw animals go. so we told our 3 year old its sad that they are gone but tey are in heaven now, she kinda understans, her pop died a few days ago and we went to the funeral and she asked if he was dead and we said yes, she felt better that he was in heaven and was happy the rest of the day

My son is also 7 too, it is going to crush him it has crushed my eldest more then my
youngest. it will take time for him to get over it but he will. Just be honest and be
truthful to them both thats the best thing to do

If they're old enough to understand you need to just be honest and don't sugar coat it too much. You just have to tell then that the dog has died or past away and that means it's in heaven now with other dogs that has past so he or she will have friends and is happy, ok or something like that.

Thanks. I have a 7 year old and a 3 1/2 year old. I think my youngest will be okay but my 7 year old already worries about death and I think this is going to crush him.

we jsut put our family dog down on sunday he was twelve years old, my kids were there when it happened. the best advice i could u is be honest and truthful when they ask

questions. Children need to learn acceptance with death and maybe a memorial for your dog where the kids can express how there felling and also letting them say goodbye to their loved pet.

Really I think it depends on how old the kids are. When our cat met her untimely demise last year, thanks to our neighbor's dog, I told my kids that she missed her family and went to visit them. Since they were 4, 3, and 1 they bought that sorry story. Just do what you feel your kids will handle best: the truth or a tiny fib. Good Luck and sorry about the dog.
