My husband and I just got on Island in June 2012, had our first daughter July 2012. I have no friends or family here, and was just wondering if there were any other army moms with young babies that would like to start a mommy and me group, or just hang out and what not? My husband is gone all the time during the day, and is currently gone until right before Thanksgiving. I am feeling extremely lonely, and really need to get some girlfriends. Maybe give each other a break here and there by watching each other's kids for a little bit? Please, if you live on Schofield send me an e-mail, I would love some friends!

PCSing is such a pain in the butt! I'm so glad that they do every thing for you though, such as the packing and what not, but the entire process is just so confusing! Everything with the army has been confusing lol. My husband and I have gone through one deployment so far, he deployed to Iraq back in 2010 for a year. It was really hard to have him gone. I would say probably the first month was the hardest of them all, and then it got a little bit easier as the time went by. You get into your own groove of things and become really independent, and get used to them being away. I think the most hardest part though is the re-transitioning phase. It's hard to go from being by yourself to having them back, it's wonderful, but hard at the same time. My husband is going to be deploying to Afghanistan in 2013 as well for 9 months, and I am definitely not looking forward to it at all! I hate when he's gone, it's so lonely :(

I will have to check out Spanaway, my husbands drive right now is 10 mins and he really is happy with it. Mine has been in for just over a year came in as a specialist because of his schooling he's older and couldn't find a job and decided to join up! This was our first PCS the army really makes it easy but they don't give you much information and keep you guessing! I'm not sure if he will decided to make a career out of the army he was trying to get some job experience to back up his master in architecture (no firms are hiring and he had no work experience). Chiles is nice, we really like red robin that was like our main place back home so I am happy we have one close by :) We are prepping for his 1st deployment 9th month to afganistan in Jan:( not doing so well trying to handle the stress ... how many deployements have you been through?

At least the last August and September were really nice there! You got lucky with this summer, usually it's not as nice! lol. Oh..Thorne...yeah that is super ghetto! If you guys are looking for a better area to live in ever, I would try Spanaway for sure. We used to live off of 224th of Pacific Avenue, and it was nice. My husband would go through East Gate, and it was only like a 20 minute drive for him. It's a much better area there! My husband will have been in for 4 years in February. He's already made Sgt. and I am so proud of him! How long has your husband been in? Is this your first PCS? He's really dedicated to the Army, so I think we will be in for a very long time! Oh and BTW we used to have TGIF's out there, but they all got bought out, I think it's been maybe two years. Macaroni Grill sounds amazing though! The only chain restaurants that are close to the base here is Ruby Tuesdays and Chile's, which are both equally BLAH lol.

I felt the same way when I move to Washington, I am originally from Colorado... there are no TGIF or Macaroni Grills here!!!! The weather here is totally a change I was used to cold winters and hot summers and it never got over 70 here! I am pretty lonely here too, I have a hard time making friends and I work full time from the house so I don't get out much but I have been dealing we currently live off base near I-5 and Thorne which is super ghetto I am a "burbs girl" so I am trying to adapt to the changes. I miss Colorado prob as much as you miss it here my family is in Colorado and its just me and my husband. I think I would get bored of the beach everyday island feaver anybody? I bet its the same for all of us army wives moving around hard to make friends ... how long has yours been in?

I would love to be stationed in Fort Lewis. That's where we just came from! I was born and raised in Tacoma, and miss it so much! I really didn't think I would miss it so much, because it's kind of ghetto and everything lol. Hawaii is okay, it's pretty boring. I mean if you LOVE to go to the beach all the time, then it's perfect, but I get bored with the beach after a while. The restaurant selection here is terrible, we don't even have an Olive Garden lol. I do, however, love the weather. I do miss having winters, but I enjoy that it's nice the majority of the time, it makes it easier to get out and do things. It's not super expensive here though. Gas is around the same as Washington, some food products are a little expensive, like milk. Utilities are through the roof and nuts! Thank goodness for living on base! It just gets lonely here, I get homesick probably every day :/ How is life back in WA? Anything exciting going on back there?
