YES!!!! I'm so glad i happened across this! I hope what I am about to say will save you from potential pain and torment.

We are still not entirely sure what caused the incident, but my gyno feels certain that the mirena was the cause. I ended up in ICU with a dangerously high fever, severe flu like symptoms, but no flu. EXTREME pain in my lower abd right quadrant, and blood pressure through the roof!

Finally, they decided to remove the Mirena, and POOF! I got better. Not to mention that I gained 30 lbs that I am STILL trying to lose.

The worse part of all was the EXTREME psycho trip I experienced after removal. I was anxious, confused, SEVERELY depressed one moment and emotionally exhausted and numb the next. I almost left my boyfriend/partner of 3 years, over the whole thing. I felt like I was drugged with something, but it was actually the hormone crash. This went on for over a month and it was A LIVING HELL. Trust me, you never want to experience this. I have never had any psych issues in my life, before or after this, and nothing could ever compare to the torment I experienced.

I would NOT recommend Mirena.

Short version-I had a mirena for a few months and it was fine. Tried to check it and couldnt feel the strings. I went to the dr and had an ultrasound, it was no longer in my uterus. I had to have surgery to have it removed. I would not recommend this type of birth control to anyone. But I have friends who love it...

Ok I had the iud right after I had my daughter and it was knocked out of place and I had it removed I haven't been on birth control in almost 8 years... Me and my soon to be husband have been trying to have a baby but in the last 3 years have not been able to conceive I'm worried that the iud could of messed me up to where I'm not able to have anymore children... I'm not sure tho

I have had it in for almost 3 months. I bled for 6 weeks after getting it in, but now I love it. It's very low maintenance. I am paranoid about it, so I simply check the strings whilst I'm showering. :)

Have you thought about different options for birth control. After the mirena expels itself the first time, it will very likely happen again if you get another. You're very lucky it fell out, and didn't go up and cause any other issues. Which might happen if you get it back in.

I have had one mirena for about 4 months now and I like it. I have not had a prob. with it.. I did have a lot of cramping when i got it put in but it went away withing 24hrs. I am currently under Dr. care got cysts but I have had them before so i cant say that mirena caused it. But we'll soon find out how bad it really is because I just had the ultrasound and havent gotten the results yet. But I will post again and let you know.

I had Mirena for 7 months and had to have it removed, I had bad cramping and so pn, but it gave me horrible migrians every two weeks, so every time I ovulated or was supposed to get my period. I also expeirenced a lot of weight gain, up to 30 lbs, which seemed to melt off when it was removed. I didn't have a problem with mood swings, but my acne got really bad. Everyone's body is different and this may not be for everyone, you just have to listen to you body.

I had my Mirena for the full 5 years. I had it removed last year in August and got on the shot (didn't do well for me) then switched to YAZ pills and still have no period. My advice about the Merina is that it can be uncomfortable at times but if the benefits’ out-weight the risks.... keep it! I noticed if I was on my feet too much and didn't rest at some point I would have a sore feeling and some occasional cramps got better over time. It really began to not bother me after the first year or so. I believe it helped me more than the pains hurt me. LOL! Good luck. And it's definitely a personal decision, evaluate what you think the best decision is for your lifestyle.

I love my Mirena. I've had mine for three years and don't have any periods at all. The only weight gain I have experienced is due to my lack of activity. There is cramping with it sometimes but I've previously had a regular iud and am used to it. I think it was about a year and half after I had it put for my periods to completely disappear. I had some spotting during that time that got increasingly infrequent. What a life saver! I'm only disappointed the time is coming where it will have to be removed and I won't be able to have another one put it.

I think it is the worst thing ever!! I got mine a month ago and just had it removed a few days ago! I was so tired and depressed. I had horrible cramps, and non stop bleeding. Now that it is out I already feel better. No more cramps, my energy has returned and my whole demeanor is better. I would not reccommend it to ANYONE!

i have an iud with mirena and its not a bad form of birth control. at the beginning its painful and u bleed a little but other than that i havent had any problems with it at all. i totally recommend it if u dont want anymore children for a while because its last up to 5 years and if u want to wait longer u can and just get another one put in. and u dont have to remember to take a pill everyday either.

Niki- B vitamins can help with the whole hair loss thing. Apparently hormonal birth control is one of the causative factors for B vitamin absorption issues. Sounds like you really got the short side of the stick with all those side effects!

Seems theres mixed thoughts on this coil, all i say is be carefull and discuss other options before having it fitted, I went through hell and still seem to be suffering!!!
I put on laods of weight in the 6mths of having it almost 3st, (lost it all now thanks to a fab diet of healthy eating) i have lost my sex drive and i think my endometiosis has kicked back in or i have another cyst!!
I bled for a couple of weeks after having it out but nothing as bad as when i had it but my moods are almost back to normal apart form the pmt before my period!! But i feel like me
Also my hair is ruind now, lost so much while on it thought id have none left.
Have it with cation!!

If you're lactating, it can decrease your milk supply substantially (because of the hormones). From what I've heard the risks are mostly related to implanting the Mirena in your uterus (small risk of perforation). My OB-Gyn said that it's good if you're not planning on having another child for about 3-5 years, and that otherwise she doesn't recommend it because it can be a bit painful to insert, and because it does have some risks. If you're planning on having another child again soon, or if you're breastfeeding, I'd skip it. Otherwise it is supposed to be a very convenient option with fewer side effects than the pill and a lower risk of pregnancy than a copper IUD.

I decided to choose Mirena as my form of birth control after my son was born last year. I experienced cramping and my periods were not getting lighter. My doctor performed an ultrasound and said it had implanted in the proper spot and it should get better within a few weeks. The next week I was on my cycle and pulled it out with my tampon. I was extremely scared but it didn't hurt at all. I called my doctor and scheduled an appt. immediately. I decided to go with another form of birth control and discontinue my use of Mirena. I have a lot of friends who swear by it and I am considering trying it again. I really didn't stick with it very long and I plan on being more careful this time. I am due in February and will be talking with my doctor to see if I should try again or look for another form of birth control.

But when i do have a menstrual cycle is very light and for about 3 days :) Other than that i love to have the peace of mind of not getting pregnant without havent to remember to take any pills!

i also had the mirena put in a year and a half ago after the birth of my child, not much cramping but continue to have irregular periods lasting up to three weeks, with one week off and all over again, sometimes no period, then back to spotting constantly, looks like i either have to decide to take it out, or deal with the inconvenient side effect. I was also diagnosed with a hemhorraging uterine cyst, probably from the mirena, as it was not present pre- pregnancy

I absolutly LOVE the mirena!!!!! When I first got it put in over a year ago, everytime my husband and I would have intercourse he could feel it and he said it would poke the tip and hurt but now its great. I rarely get periods and if I do its very very light and only lasts maybe 1 day :) ........... Last time I was at the doctors which was 3 weeks ago, she said it looked great. I feel great knowing that I won't get pregnant in the next 4 years!!!

I have 4 children and I don't want anymore but with me only be 24 the doc doesn't want to tie my tubes and years down the road, want more children. ............... I told her absolutly NO MORE CHILDREN!!!

I have just recently decided to go with Mirena, one of my closest friends is a Bayer Pharm rep and sells it. She was the one who convinced me to get it and so far I haven't had any serious problems. When it was being inserted I had some cramping and it was a little painful but after a few days and some IB profen I was great. I haven't had any cramps or bleeding since and I am also a new mother and breastfeeding.

i have had mirena for almost 1.5 yrs and i love it. i had pain for a bit and spotting for a year! but now i dont get my period. if i do its for like maybe 3 days with no pms. i have heard different stories from everyone... the implant to me was a tiny pinch a lil bit more painful than a pap.. and labor was much worse. but then again was in labor for 16 hrs. i highly reccomend it for moms not looking to have another child for a while. i am a single mother and i think its perfect! no pill, no weight gain, no shot... cant feel it. im happy.

I have it and don't mind at all. I have also seen people who have gotten pregnant on it and have heard of people getting cysts and i have had no problem. i think it really depends on the woman. i would encourage someone to try it and if they don't like it then get it removed but it is great when you have a kid and can't even remember if you brushed your teeth let alone remember a pill or a patch or even to get a shot. i would never do a shot my very close friend did and she gained bout 20lbs in bout 2 months. i dont have time to remember a pill and i don't even like a bandaid on me so i no i won't like a patch. i love the mirena it is great for someone who can't even think straight half the time. the only problem that me and my husband has had is he can feel the sharpness of the string against him when we have sex and that makes me wonder, if he can feel it and it is sharp i wonder if it can poke a hole in a condom.

I've had the Mirena for about a year now after trying everything else under the sun, and I think its probably the best thing I've tried to date. I can't lie and say the process wasn't painful and a couple of times thought about removing it because of the pain in my pelvis but I dealt with it since I've had bad period cramps my whole life. And the biggest plus is the fact that I have no worries of getting pregnant til my son turns 9 or 10 enough time to enjoy him fully!

I had one fitted and removed after 6mths, I had to beg my doctor to take it out and my gyni wasnt happy that i had it taken out!! I had it not only to stop getting pregnant again but to help with the endometriosis i suffer with.

Didnt help at all, my moods were terrible constantly snapping and v angry and frustarted, felt like a different person, Im noramly a very calm person.

I also didnt stop bleeding untill a couple of weeks after it came out and the pain i was in when i had it in was unbearable, aparently it was fitted to low or it had fallen, but they say people react differently to it. I also put on a load of weight almost 3st in 6mths!!

My freind has it and has no problems with it. It just didnt agree with me at all.

The day it came out I was back to my old self, felt like a weight and a huge black cloud had been lifted and no more pain exept for the endo.

It just depends on the person but i wouldnt recomend it.

I have had Mirena for 2.5 years. I got it at my 8 week appt after I had my daughter. I have had nothing but problems with it since I got it.

I had the normal cramps and bleeding from the insertion and the implantation of it. Then after about 6mo, I started getting horrible stabbing pains where it is and they hurt so bad it doubled me over. They finally went away after a bit but would come back every once in a while. Not as bad but still hurt like hell.

That went on for a while.

When Hubby and I finally started DTD on a regular basis it HURT really bad. I was cramping up and it hurt in the exact location at the IUD. He could and can still feel it when we DTD.

It caused my libido to take a nose dive too. Its still hard for me.

My period never did return regularly. Still hasnt. I have about 3 days of bleeding and then nothing for a week and then Ill get some light bleeding for about 2 weeks straight and then nothing again for another 2 months.

Everything finally eased up after I had it about a year. Last September I started cramping really bad. It felt like I was in labor. I went to the bathroom and I was bleeding really heavy. I called a friend of mine to cancel our plans to go out and told her what was going on. She said that it sounded like I was having a miscarriage.

I thought that it was impossible because of the IUD and shrugged it off as finally getting my period back.

The following day, I passed a quarter sized clot that looked like veiny cottage cheese. I called my OB/GYN and ge got me in ASAP. I had most definitely had a miscarriage. I was around 10 weeks when I lost the baby. I have had 2 more miscarriages since then.

The Mirena is Abortifacient. They are not sure exactly how it works though. The way that it prevents pregnancy is by preventing the egg to implant. It still allows the egg to be fertilized.

If you want and IUD, I would seriously consider the ParaGuard. Its a copper IUD so there are no horomones. The copper is toxic to sperm and it kills them instead.

The horomones from Mirena have messed me up really bad. Like I said, I dont even want sex anymore and when I do, we have to use so much lube because everything has been messed up.

I would not suggest Mirena to anyone.

ETA:

I have had no weight gain, no issues with acne but Im VERY moody and very irritable with it. My husband told me one day, that he has never seen me go from nice to bitchy/pissed like he has after i got Mirena. Every little thing bugs me now too.

I had one for 2 years, I have acne so my dermatologist suggested that get it removed, i fought that for a year and then had it removed. I was more irritable with it, but it does not deliver as strong of hormones as pills they are more like your natural hormones, I loved it because I always forget to take my pills, I did not have a period maybe 1 day really light. But everyone is different and there are risk

I've had Mirena for just over 3 years. I LOVE IT!!! I don't get periods, I don't even remember when my last one was, (last year sometime) I get stomach twinges once a month when I should actually be having a period. They aren't really pains just slight discomfort but it only lasts a couple hours and then they are gone. But I do also believe that it depends on the woman and her body as to how Mirena will work for you. I was a fortunate one. Some women have Horror stories about it. So it just depends on what you want.
