anyone else having problems with Mirena?

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

I've had Mirena for about three years now. During the past three years my cycle hasn't been so regular, meaning I can't time it like I used to. My periods are usually heavy and lasts for about 8-10 days. This month it extremly light, not heavy enought to wear a regular pad and at certain times of the day i don't even need a pantyliner. Is there anyone else experiancing the same problems with their IU?

thank all of yall that have posted, all the information was helpful in helping me determine my next step. I will definitely go to the doctor to have it checked out and explore a different birth control method. thank you all, ladies

thank you Michelle, for telling me that. It was scary at first to read that but then it's also informative. I've always had the question how do you know you're pregnant with Mirena? I woulod like to know cause at this point I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to keep the thing in.

I had to have my removed as i started getting severe stomach pains and when the drs went to check it they couldn't find it!!! I had to end up having surgery to remove it as it had gone through my uterus wall, which the dr did say was VERY uncommon!!! But i would definately recomend you go and get checked out ASAP just to be sure.

omg that is scary!! i haven't heard of anyone getting pregnant while on it. i have had periods where they only last a couple of days then go away and then come back a few days later. i would get my taken out but no other birth control has worked for me and i dont want to have another baby right now.

I just got mine taken out! Was in for 2 years... I had nothing but stomach pains so bad I could barely stand and my period was supposedly suppost to stop...some months it was heavy but short, other months light but last up to 2 weeks, I'd get it for 2 days, than go away for a few days than back again. 1st period after removal was 2 weeks long and very very heavy, but now back to normal and no more stomach pains. And lots of people here are getting pregnant on the IUD, and it kills the baby once taken out. I had mine removed last month and I just had a miscarriage and they said it was because of the IUD. Not tryin to scare you, just trying to help you.

so far from the women i have asked that have mirena all have something different to say about it. my sister has no side affects, no cramps, no periods, no nothing and my 2 cousins are both they same. ya know i didn't even read anything about it, i just went with what my doctor on what was best for me since i am a "fertile mertile" lol. and thank you she is a handful she is 4..

i haven't had any problems with cramping. My cramps feel more like pressure than pain. I thought it was supposed to supress cramps and pain. You know I should've done more study on this method of birth control. It's good at preventing pregnancy and it's convientant for those like me that have terrible memories but the side affects are horrible, from what I've read. Pretty daughter if you don't mind me saying so
