I am 26 weeks pregnant and I have been getting contractions! But the good thing is that my cervix is still closed! I am just scared that I am going to go into preterm labour eventually! Anyone else experience this?

I did start haveing contractoins at 25 weeks and my daughter was born at 30 weeks, she is now a happy and heathly 14 1/2 month. My doctors did chop it up to BH when you do go make sure they listen to you and take you seriously. There is a test out there that can be easly done that can help determine if you are going into laber within two weeks (they are not 100%) but can help out with see inf you are. Another thing you might wont to consider is going to the hosptial because they are painful. It isn't a bad idea to be hooked up to the monitors to see what they really are. You can also go to your doctor when they happen as see what they think it looks like. I hope that your doctors put you on at least a modified bed rest if not you might wont to take it easy (I know it can be hard if you a older child). Here is some other things tha might help calm them down if they are BH you can lie on your left side raise your legs and drink some water!!! Kaeti is right that they have come a long way in stopping early labor just watch you body for signs that you might be going into early labor. My main indacators were 'nesting" at 29 weeks and leakage that my doctors told me over the phone was pee (sorry really didn't have good doctors). A women knows when something is wrong, listen to your body it knows what is going on. Good luck and will be praying for you!!!

I'm 34 weeks and I just got out of the hospital for preterm labor 2 weeks ago. I was dehydrated and it led to uterine irritability which led to contractions. Anyway, the only indication I had that the contractions weren't braxton hicks was that they started at the top of my tummy and slowly squeezed down. They were also 4 minutes apart exactly and BH aren't regular like that. My contractions never actually changed my cervix, but my midwife thinks we caught them in time. As long as you listen to your body and your doctor you should be fine. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've had preterm labor every time due to hormonal issues. It's amazing how much they can do to stop it and keep your baby in there! Good luck and try not to worry!

Sounds like you have having Braxton Hicks contractions. As long as they aren't consistent & they go away when you rest or move around, then you have nothing to worry about. Make sure you stay hydrated & get rest when you need it. Take care of yourself =]

I had cramping during my entire pregnancy. Everything is ok if baby is growing! I delivered at 36 weeks, not because of early contractions but because I was Anemic. I agree with everyone else, Braxton Hicks. Drink plenty of water. I found always having a water bottle handy worked well. Also, put your feet up and take it easy.

Thanks ladies! This is my second pregnancy and I never went through none of the things that I am going through now with him! My son is turning four so it has been a lil while since I have gone through this! It just concerns me mainly cause I have had miscarriages before this pregnancy! I had one just two weeks before I got pregnant now! So there have been alot of unusual things happening that get me concerned! Doctors always tell you that you are fine but sometimes your body tells you otherwise! So all of your experiences help alot, trust me! Thanks once again!

I had contractions with all three of mine from about twenty weeks on. It seemed to be about the same time every day, usually in the evening, and they would last about an hour. They never really amounted too much until it was time for them to :)

I understand your concerns. If it gets worse I'd go into the E.R. Best of luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

It is just my lower stomcah getting hard and when it happens I cant breathe! Throughout that last week, sometimes it lasts constantly all day pretty painful! Other times it is on and off during the days! I went in to see my midwife yesterday and she is sending me for an ultrasound to see the length of my cervix! But that ultrasound isnt til next friday! So I was just seeing if anyone else could relate! Thanks!

you may be experiencing braxton hicks contractions. This is your body's way of gearing up for the real thing. But if your contractions are painful or regular get in to see your doctor. Regular painful contractions could be preterm labor.

When you feel them coming on try to sit back and relax. If they stop they're most likely braxton hicks, but if they continue give your doctor a call.

I started having contractions with my second pregnancy around 24 wks. They say that Braxton Hicks can start that early. I was also dehydrated and they got a lot worse. Once I got hydrated again they went down a lot. As long as your doc is not worried and your cervix is still closed then I would try not to worry too much. Stressing out is not good for the contactions either. Good Luck!
