my son was in a walker at the age of 5 months.. all he wanted to do was stand.. he started walking on his own at 8 months.. there is NOTHING wrong with his legs, infact he is one of the most fit and active children i know, his legs are nice and straight, alot of children start bow legged but he never did, i wouldnt worry, from my experience children only do what they can, if it hurts etc they will stop.

my daughter was crawling before she was 4 months andwalked at 7 months 2 days. some are earlier than others. they all catch up to each other in the end and if she is ready to walk then you cant stop her. i wouldnt worry, if her body is ready to do it then it will happen, she wont damage herself xxx

Oh honey, he's fine! I wouldn't worry! My son has been standing on his legs months before he started even walking. You just have a little prodigy on your hands :D -Lexy

My son started to crawl (hands and knees) at 6 months, and on the same day began to pull up and walk around holding onto objects. He took 5 'first' steps on his 9 month bd and hasn't quit! (he's 3 now.) My daughter army crawled until she was 8 months, and began walking at 10 months. She's a year now, and does her best to keep up with her loder brother... as I type she's trying to climb onto the piano... never dull with early walkers!

My son started walking on his own at 9-months, though he'd been pushing around a walker as a crutch for a month or so prior to that. He's 2 now, and is one of the most active little rascals you'd ever meet! No developmental issues at all with his legs or anything. Just smile and nod at the people telling you that you shouldn't let him do it, and then go about your business. Everyone thinks they're an expert on your kid, but you're the only one that really knows what's best.

Quoting Lisa:

My son walked without holding on to anything by nine and a half months, it was nerve wracking but he did ok, no big wipeouts. I know other babies who were almost 15 months before they walked, every baby is different.

She did have one wipeout; it was my fault. She was carrying her cup around while walking and fell flat onto it. She has a circle cut/bruise around her mouth. So sad and yet the silliest looking thing I have ever seen!

Thanks everyone for reassuring me. She started pulling up and moving along couches around 5 months. She was actually pretty late at crawling and didn't get up on all fours and move quickly until 6 months. People would tell me to stop her from pulling up/walking b/c she hadn't learned to crawl the normal way. (She army crawled from 3.5-6 months).

she'll walk when ready. Don't stress it, she's not. Just enjoy every milestone

My daughter started walking at 8 months. I started giving her belly time from the get-go, rarely picked her up. She pretty much spent most of the time on the floor and started crawling at 6 months.

How old is your baby?

If he/she is walking all on their own, then go baby!! Some go earlier, some go later, and yours is where he or she wants to be!
