Apparently if you don't want to name your child after someone you're selfish and unappreciative can someone explain this to me??

I am a mother to be (20 years old) and I am being forced to name my child after someone. That someone is my step father who I'm not even close with. Don't get me wrong I love him but we have no type of bond. My mother feels like since her and my dad are helping me out and paying for everything until I can get on my feet, she should be able to pick my sons middle name. I don't agree. She said I'm selfish & unappreciative. She has been stressing me out for 6 months over this damn name & it is getting on my nerves. She even wanted to kick me out smh. The killer part is my dad doesnt even care what I name my son but of course he is on her side.I don't feel anyone should be pressured into naming their child something they don't like. Like you already had your chance so let me have mine. Can anyone explain this to me??

sounds like their going to be those grandparents who wont let you parent. those overbearing ones who have to give you their unneeded opinion all day long. Even sounds like they're going to hold all the help theyre giving you over your head... you know the whole "we let you stay here, bought you those diapers.. blah blah"

I'd get on my feet real fast & get up out of their hands if this is what they're turning into. & if they find you an "unfit" mother (maybe a partier, out all the time, etc), it sounds like they'd want custody.

I have never asked anyone's (except their dad) opinion on what I should name my babies.
If *I* want to name my kids after people in the family, I do. And I have. Both my current children have multiple middle names, all from within the family. On both sides.
I inform people of my name choices. I don't ask their opinions or input. What you name your child is your own business. Put what you like on the birth certificate. No one can change that, no matter how much they scream and holler.

I agree with you totally no one had the right to bully anyone in to calling their baby what they don't wont it is a mother and a fathers privilege to choose a name. My mil was very pushy but thank god I didn't live with her, I stop taking about it and just told her babies name when she was born, my next pregnancy I just said "I don't know" the whole time to everyone then announced her name when she was born.

That's why none of my 3 children have ANY names that are in the family.

It's your child and your choice of what name to give it. Unless your mother fills in the paperwork for the birth certificate than she has no say. If she does fill in the paperwork then that's illegal!!!!

My dad wanted me to name my daughter after someone in the family, after my dad listed names of family members I picked the name I liked most and it wasn't on my dads list of names. My daughter ended up with my cousins first name and my middle name. If it is your step fathers name I wouldn't go out of my way to name my child after a step parent. My parents arnt together and it doesn't matter what you name your child, are your parents going to love your son any less because of his name?
