It's not recommended for children under 2 (www.babycenter.com). My 15 month does not use one.

I have 3 boys my oldest is five and started using a pillow at the age of 3,my middle son is27 months and he doesn't have a pillow in his crib yet I. Have offered him one and he didn't like it he sleeps with his bear that lights up and he always wants covered up with his cars blanket. My youngest is only 8 months I haven't offered him a pillow yet as I believe he is too young nor do I cover him with a blanket because they end up over his face. I think it really depends on the child but my opion is wait until they are old enough to ask for one that way they can tell you rather or not it is making their neck hurt. Best wishes!

We gave our son a pillow at about 1 year. He didn't really start sleeping on it until about 18 months. For the most part, he'd just cuddle it or not sleep on it at all.

My daughter was given an old flat one at 18 months and a new one at 2 1/2. Wanted to make sure she wouldn't suffocate .

My son was 13-14months. I'd kept his cot in my room until he was 12months & then moved him to his own room. I wanted to make sure he'd be ok in there before introducing anything new to his cot.

well i let my son sleep with a pillow at 14 months. I think they have to be strong enough to lift there head up and move around turn over. i think the best answer for me was when your child is out of the sids age range.

i started a pillow at 11 months but i put it under his crib sheet so he couldn't get under it when he moved around in his sleep. the only reason i introduced it then was because he was taking his blanket and using it as a pillow which caused him to begin waking in the night because he was chilly

my daughter is 2 and she RARELY uses a pillow, when shes tired enough and she happens to fall asleep in our room on our bed, while watching her treehouse tv, she may sometimes fall asleep on a pillow and its shocking when she does, the only pillows she uses in her room are her glow worm and her bunny stuffy. =)

I wasn't sure either! My friend had her baby on a pillow at 6 months.... granted the child had her days and nights confused... but I didn't even give my son the option until he was 14 months, but he didn't like it and would always throw it out of the crib. Now, he's 2.5 and sometimes he'll use it sometimes he won't.

***I was completely paranoid for 3-4 months after I introduced the pillow to him and still check on him all the time.

i have always been abit confused with this myself. because my son sleeps fine in our bed with a pillow and lately he likes us to put our pillows in his cot but i dont think i will give him a pillow untill he is in a bed! but i like what laura green did, under the sheet, very good idea! i will be keeping that in mind! :)

my 2 year old has a pillow but we have it under her sheet so she has all the benefits of a pillow but we have the reassurance that she can't smother herself with it :D

i gave my kids pillows at one year. But for their first pillow i tried to make it as firm as i could. I think at that age they are smart enough to realize when they cant breathe. For the first few night i would check on tem constantly just to make sure they were on it and not under it. My daughter always scared me cause the second she learned to close her fist and bring things to her face, she started to bring her blankets to her face. So she didnt even get blankets to sleep with till she was a year. good luck!

I gave my son a pillow when he was ten months old, around Christmas, because he got a pillow pet and just loved it. If your child can lift his head with no problems, I don't see the harm in it. :)

i didn't give my kids a pillow until they where in there own beds but for both my kids that was 1 1/2 and i still haven't given one to my 13months yet but in saying that if you feel your child is reading for one then give him one he might even be wanting one to help him sleep

my 9 month old has started using his stuffy as a pillow LOL, or if the couch cushions are on the floor he crawls over and lays his head on them. Still no pillow in his crib, he seems happy to improvise when he needs to with stuffed animals

Really they do not need a pillow until actually use it. My 17 month old is too restless in her sleep to even need a pillow. My first daughter Kylee, well we did not give her a pillow until she was 2 years old and she would still push it of the bed. It really just depends on how your child sleep and that the child must be able to lift their head.

My 5 year old son didn't start using a pillow until he was 2. My 3 year old daughter started using a pillow at 18 months. My 16 month old son will start to use a pillow when he starts sleeping in a toddler bed.

My 18 month old has a pillow pet and a favorite red baby blanket try to take either one and he freaks, I mean cries for hours or until you give them back. So I guess you can say my 18 month old has a pillow. I think my oldest who is now 4 almost 5 was about the same age as his little brother when he was given a pillow also. They gave him it at the hospital after he had a ECO cardiogram. it was hand made with motorcycles and as it was a little one I let him start sleeping with it .

We didn't actually give our son his pillow. He saw a friend with one and a few nights later, took one from the spare bed, I didn't have the heart to take it away, he looked so proud of being a big boy. He was about two and a half at the time.

I was probably a mean mummy not giving him one before that, but I honestly didn't think he wanted one, he had never showed any interest before that.

I think I did it when he was 1. As long as they know how to lift their head and they have great head control, I don't think it is a problem. =)

Our son was 2 when we first gave him a pillow. His grandma bought him one of those pillow pets and he refused to go to bed without it. He loves his pillow! :)
