She had the just of it down, but I cannot get to tell me when sh has to potty instead of her coming to tell me after she already went potty on herself.

I trained my 19 month old daughter by have her bare butt and taking her to the potty every 20 minutes for a day. next day still bare butt and went potty every 30-40 minutes, then third day every hour. she got the jist down pretty well during those days, it was a lot of work but definitely paid off! now when we are home I let her be bare butt often and she takes herself to the potty (I remind her if she hasn't gone potty in the last hour just to make sure we don't have an accident). For the first 2-3 weeks we had a potty chair in the living room (where we usually are) so that accidents were less likely. I taught her the sign language for "potty" and used that and an m&m for successes during the first 3 days and those have stuck. if we are out and about I make sure to pop into the bathroom to give her the chance, if she doesn't go she usually signals with sign language when she needs to go.
tips: be consistent. make it fun/exciting when she has successes. frequent reminders will help her pay attention to her body hopefully before having an accident :)
good luck and hope she's out of diapers soon! :)
