I started feeling tiny pokes at about 17 weeks, and didnt start feeling regular strong kicks until around 28 weeks or so. I think this is completely normal, as long as you feel them every day I think everything is fine. Its not until around 28 - 30 weeks that you should be feeling at least 10 movements in about a 2 hour period. Just wait you will feel your baby kicking hard and rolling around in no time!

Babies are funny like that. They kick a lot. You will soon start to feel movements or flutters. If you don't notice a change soon, visit you OB GYN. All babies and pregnancies are diff, trust your instinct.

[deleted account]

If you are worried talk to doctor, but remember it depends where baby is sitting as to how you feel the kicks. I have even heard of women who never feel a kick, or only a couple their whole pregnancy. Try not to get too worried, I know its hard!

Yeah that's about right I didn't really start to feel my baby kicking until the end of my 7th month. And then I hear boys don't move as much.

It can all depend on where your placenta is located as well, if you have an anterior placenta it is attached at the front of your uterus so there is more padding and you will be less likely to feel movement. People with posterior placentas can usually feel the baby move long before people with anteriors. I have an anterior, however i have been lucky and have been able to feel the baby move since about 18 weeks. What really helped me was going in our hottub, it lifts the weight off the baby and helps you feel the movement.
Congrats and good luck

When I was pregnant w/ my son, I was feeling him move around 26 weeks or so- actually move, not just little kicks- and he was/is my first. It also depends on if your baby is small. My son was 9lbs 2oz at birth. If your family has a tendency to have smaller babies, it will take longer to actually feel them move. As long as you feel something, your baby should be Ok. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

Its normal! Is this your first pregnancy? If so, a lot of people dont feel movement all the time. It also depends on the placement of your uterus. Im 22 weeks, first baby, and I get kicks and weird movements. You wont feel it move all the time. When it gets bigger apparently you feel everything! Even hiccups!

Yes, this is normal, as baby gets bigger you will feel a lot more going on. You may even notice them more while lying on your right side, after eating. As each week passes they will get stronger and more thru out all times of the day and night. You can always call and ask your dr if you get nervous about not feeling any kicks for a long period of time.

Yes! The baby is still tiny and also if you are up walking this will lull him to sleep! Just be patient....eventually it will hurt when he moves around and pushes out for some stretching room! I would still voice your concern to your doctor tho.
Good luck Brittany!

Im pretty sure its normal & nothing to worry about, with my 1st child i felt her for the 1st time at around 20 weeks or so but it wasnt anything compared to what you will feel when the baby gets bigger, believe me....once they start kicking things & it hurts then you will wish you barely felt it again lol with my 2nd child i can feel little flutters but im not that far along yet...good luck with everything

I didn't actually feel my little boy start to roll around until later like around 27 or 28 weeks when he was filling out my whole tummy! My husband had just started feeling the baby on the outside at 23 weeks. This is my first and I think that makes a huge difference as well! I also didn't feel kicks every day and he still is a pretty shy baby at 37 weeks!

When i was pregnant with Freddie at first it felt just like fizzing in my tummy and sometimes like a bit of preassure pushing out, eventually the kicks got so hard it took my breath away x

Go see your doctor, speak to them about your concerns they will organise a scan and reasure you x

Freddie used to always face my soine so i was always at the doctors being checked. also drink somethink cold and fizzy it makes them go mad!! I know through experiance x :)

i think it is quite normal and it could be that your placenta or so could be blocking most of the moving around, but i think its always best to ask a professional just to ease the mind.

some babies move more than others...obviously you should speak with your doctor and if she (or he) isn't concerned then I wouldn't lose sleep. If you feel kicks, then you are feeling movement now and then; his activity level may be low right now. Don't worry! GL

if this is our first baby its alot harder to detect the kicks and movements. It can also depend on where your placenta is positioned with my son it was right at the front of my tummy so the movements had to be felt through that and if they are facing towards your spine your arent likely to notice them either. As long as you are feeling some activity i wouldnt be worried.

Thats kinda what happened with me.
I'm thirdy two weeks pregnant now, and let me tell you.
My little one kicks like crazy.
I wen't to the Twilight thing.. and he just kept kicking through out the movie, the kicking kinda drove me crazy because I needed to go to the bathroom, but you know movies eh :)

Usually you will notice the kicks will get stronger, If you are really worried then talk to your obgyn and they will find out everything to see if there is a problem or not. Usually though there isn't.
Anyways another thing I wanted to add this info about what my son does might not help because every pregnancy is different, along with the mother too. So you may feel different things then all the other mommys out there.

Just a couple of tips..
At night time put preasure on your belly, but not enough to hurt and you will feel him/her moving. If he is getting stronger like you notice his kicks, or hitting is getting stronger then that should make you happy. Also usually you won't feel your baby move that much once your further along, so you could be having a big baby that doesn't move that much because he or she doesn't have that much room. Also ice cream or cold cold water with ice helps make them move, and then you could usually feel how strong he or she is. I was about 30 weeks when I was for sure about feeling his leg and his foot. It just took awhile because he was soo small, and had soo much room that made it hard for me to feel him moving.

Congrats on the pregnancy, I know I kinda rambled sorry about that :) Just give everything time and I'm sure you will be able to feel your child move more, like kicking or hitting. Also remember if you can't get that all off your mind about your baby talk to your obgyn believe me, they should be the ones to help you, and be there for you, and make sure that you understand and that you aren't worried. Being pregnant and worried sucks, I know. So if you really need to talk to someone talk to your obgyn.

relax sweetherat it's all normal. I had placenta previa...so it was not till the end that i felt her move. The Drs. said she was heathy and fine and she was. Take deep breaths. Your almost half way done. The next months to come will be full of movement and you'll be singing a differant tune. The bigger thay get and the less space they have the more you feel them move.

Do not worry! Before you know it you will be getting kicks in your ribs and when they really start to move, it will feel like they are swimming inside your belly. I am 26 weeks, my son is constantly moving when he is awake. He positions himself so he is kicking me in the ribs and hitting me in the bladder at the same time:) As you get further along, you will feel it more...

[deleted account]

My first ws so active she gave me bruised ribs, when i had her i was so sore on the side were she loved to get her hardest kicks in and the midwife said its from her kicks and they caused the bruiseing.lol.by 23 weeks she was very strong and also seen by others poking a part of her body out..so many babys are very different, she was 7lbs 70z and over 50cms.She was always active even after her birth and now at five years shes still an active girl lol.I agree for many moms 23 weeks can still be a time were the will be light and in the next mth or two the will become stronger.Just talk to your doc and put your mind at ease.

[deleted account]

Always talk to your doc about your babys movements first off, most visits the do ask is baby moving well and if you dont feel the baby is, always say so.

My first was a mover from 3&half mths and strong, which the doc even said at her 12week scan and thought i was further along but i wasnt.

My second was not a mover and i never felt strong movemnt or kicks.I carried her low and she never moved past my tummy button. At the scans she was moveing around well for them and there was good water around her but 4 days before i had her i was taken in due to her not moveing well for them and i was on a trace and i had to press the button each kick and she never moved once in the half hour. This was normal to me but not for them but i had a beautiful girl after the four days i was 40weeks 4days,and she thrived well after birth.I had complications only found at the section but i think the lack of movement was due to how i carried her and she was only 6lbs and 4weeks behind in body growth due to my placent problem.

Now with that said many dont have any problems and its perfectly normally to have a light mover so dont worry and talk to your doctor.

If you ever have a problem feeling the baby move or kick, try emptying your bladder, drinking something with caffeine (they say it is ok in moderation) and lay flat on your back. I had the same question and that is what the nurse at the doctor office told me! :)

Brittany,

I agree that with Evie I didn't feel strong kicks, until late in my third trimester even! She was just a quiet girl (until she came out!).

If you're ever worried though the best thing to do is to call your OB and just confirm that everything sounds normal. There's no point to your being worried if everything is actually okay and your OB or his office nurse should be able to ease your fears.

With my son I never felt him move hardly at all - with this one - since about 15 weeks this kid has NOT stopped moving - which causes some serious sickness if I have just eaten...

I had an ultrasound today and the baby was having a grand ole time (I am 34 weeks and 5 days)...it was rolling around and grabbing it's toes and poking me in the abdomen - some times I wish it would just go to sleep lol so I could...soon enough you will be like oh man you are awake again - could ya maybe let me get some sleep in here somewhere lol...just enjoy the ride - soon enough it will all be a distant memory and your little bundle will be here :)
