So my son is 4 1/2 month old and he has been sleeping more this past week. He wakes up to eat and he will play for maybe an hour then wants to take another hour nap. He is still sleeping all night. Should I be worried or could this have something to do with a growth spurt?

my son is 6 months and 2 weeks now ... and i envy you for being able to ge tthat much sleep ...lol ... when he was about 4 months i too found he was very sleepy ... he did play ... but not as much as i thought he should. My doc said its entirely normal so long as they are eating well. If he wasnt eating well his sleeping may be a result of it. enjoy it! lol, babies go through phases and it will end . My little one woke me up 5 times last night ... that was approximately every 2 hours ... not too mention he takes 2 really good naps during the day ... but thats it ... and this is new ... he was going for 4 hour stretches at night ... but only lasted for about a month !

Thanks for the advise ladies. Its just mind blowing how much he is sleeping. I pick him up from the sitters at 4 we come home he plays for about 30 min then he naps for a hour wakes up to eat, plays for another hour or so. Then falls back asleep for about 2 hours wakes up eats again stays awake then an hour later goes to sleep between 9 and 10 and sleeps all night. Maybe I'm just jealous because I cant sleep that much.

It sounds pretty normal to me. At his age i think bubs are only really meant to be up for 1hr-1.5hr if hes doing that it sounds like you have the perfect little sleeper. for now :)

When my little girl was around the same age she was only managing to stay up for an hr at a time during the day too. I found that her sleep patterns varied all the time, and just when I thought we had it under control and I knew what was happening she went and changed it again! It is possibly just a growth spurt. Just make sure you put bubs to sleep when he appears to need it and you will be fine! Just go with his flow!!

Sounds like he is going through a nice little growth spurt! As long as he is happy to be going to sleep and not causing you any problems at night I would go with it! Just dont get to comfy!! then you will be dissapointed when he gets more active hehehe!

I know my son would sleep more if I kept him too full. The more he eats the sleepier he is. So I try to stop him from eating that last 1/2 oz, it seems to help. I would not worry unless he starts losing his appetite, that is when I would get worries personaly. It also never hurts to call the Dr.

My son used to do that too. Does he eat a lot? Is he in a good mood generally? Is he gaining weight steadily? He might just like to sleep (my son is like that). I think it is normal but if you are concerned talk to his doctor.
