Baby won't sleep during the day

I have a baby girl who's almost four months old and she won't sleep during the day. I have tried everything, I've topped her up with formula after a full breastfeed, walked her in the pram, got her to sleep in my arms then put her into bed, put her into her cot and used the pacifier to help settle her I even tried some baby rice but nothing works. She might have a couple of half hour naps but no decent sleep so by about 3pm she is really tired and grumpy but still refuses to sleep. I'm tearing my hair!

If she's really tired and grumpy than she needs more sleep. I don't agreed with 'letting them cry it out' i tried it, i hated it i felt so bad and it still didn't work. Your little girl might be teething, or could have a tummy ache or gas, do you drink coffee or coke, caffeine really f*cks with them and keeps them wired, so that it's impossible for them to sleep. Bub might just be really stimulated, she may be just too interested in the world and doesn't want to sleep and miss anything.

But then again she might just be a very awake baby, some just don't sleep. Mine doesn't.

My daughter doesn't sleep more then 20 -30 mins at a time during the day unless we go out somewhere. She doesn't get cranky though. Just takes her little power nap and is all sweet again!

A nap of 30-45 minutes is only one sleep cycle for a baby. Try only keeping your baby up for 90 minutes at a time. Then as you are approaching the end of the 90 minutes begin whatever method you want to put her to sleep. This time interval will help her to not become overstimulated and thus impossible to sleep. Also have her in bed down for the night by 6pm. This will ensure she gets enough daytime and night sleep.

My 5 month old does the same thing. She is a great sleeper at night, but during the day she never seems to sleep for more than 45 min. At first I was really frustrated with the fact that she wouldnt sleep like she use to when she was a newborn, but maybe she just doesnt need that much sleep. For a while we would make her lay down and she would just cry like crazy, so we just stopped forcing her to nap and yes there was one night that she didnt take a nap almost all day and we ended up having to drive around for an hour just so that she could sleep! But like i always say to myself this too will pass and it wont last forever! hang in there.

oh i can sympathise... my daughter is exactly the same, accept she barely sleeps at night as well... I have resorted to letting her cry it out, but it is horrible! I hope your baby girl sleeps for you soon.

Happened to me too! Some babies are just not sleepers! You have to keep your sanity. You need to let her cry it out. My daughter would sometimes cry for 20 minutes, but eventually would ware herself out and fall asleep! It may take a week, but eventually she'll get the hang of it.
