I know someone who has a about 1 and a half month old that is 12 pounds already, is that a healthy weight for a baby that young?

My nephew was 6 13 born and by 2 months he would have been approx 13 pounds, where as my little girl was 7 9 and by 2 months was only approx 10 pounds. Mind you they did get hassled because he would feed(220mls)every 2 and a half hours. I had my girl on cereal in her bottle already at 6 weeks but she only took at the very most 130mls a feed around every 4 hours generally she would usually only take 100mls every 3 hours. What i find funny is that my nephew was such a big baby but crawled at 4 months and walked by 9 months he could even kick a ball by 12 months. All babies are different my niece and nephew are prime examples, she was the bigger baby but now at 15 months is tiny and weighs only approx 18 pounds and he is still a big boof but healthy as an ox. To me as a mother of a child who has had growth issue i would have been so much more happier if she had a bit of extra weight on that way they have a loss area if they get sick at all. What matters to me now more then anything is that they are happy and healthy

I agree it depends on the weight of the baby at birth. My son at birth was 7.11 and at 2m weighed about 10lbs,my daughter at 2m weighed the same. My son is now 2yrs and weighs 26lbs. My daughter is only 5m but at her 4m apt she weighed 14.5. We are both small parents as well so that has to do with it some too. My in laws just had a baby and at birth he weighed 6.11 and at 4m he weighed 18lbs...big baby...but the dad is small and the mom is medium but the feed the poor kid 8ozs everytime he cries because they don't know what else to do. The Dr told them to cut back on feeding at his 4m apt and he was only eatin 6oxs then and 2 days later they uped it to the 8ozs... if the baby is following their own curve then it's fine and as long as the Dr has no concerns they will be fine. They are usually bigger under the age of one because they have many grothw spurts and the body is just making sure they have lots of fat stores for when they start to get mobile. My son thinned out when he started walking around 1yr.

It depends on how big the baby was when it was born. Some babies are bigger and eat more then others.
