Oh no, i doubt very much she'd just stop, but if while she's nursing she knows she's going to be taken off it's a much more gentle way then just not letting her nurse or shortening the length of time and then just taking her off without warning!

I must add this isn't my own experience, my litle girl is only 9weeks, but my friend was stil nursing her 4 year old at night and she bought a sand timer and told him when the sand runs out it's time to stop and go to sleep. As she was nursing him she would remind him by saying "it's nearly time for sleep the sand's nearly gone" and then she would say "all the sand's gone now it's time for sleep" and then take him off the boob and lay him down, she would then offer him milk in a sippy cup. After a few days he'd got the hang of the sand timer and could start reducing the length of time nursing and increasing the amount of milk taken from a cup.

To Lucy Wragg - Hey there!!! :) Really?? You mean she'll somehow know what it means and automatically stop nursing or it will take some time till she gets used to it?.. And thanks so much for the tips!!

Well done on feeding your daughter for so long, the benefit to both of you is immense! Personally i wouldn't wean her until you have moved house and are settled. I also wouldn't do it cold turkey. What about shortening the length of the time each night that she nurses, you could perhaps get a visual timer or cout down or something so your daughter knows she's only got that amount of time to nurse.

hey hello!! I'm sid from singapore and my girl's aged 2yrs old.. same case as urs... needs to nurse just to go to sleep every night. from my aspect, i think you shouldn't wean her anytime soon... considering that you're moving to a new place so it's not advisable as ur girl will still need the comfort and secured bonding. it's only sleeping time.. :) but then again if u feel like it's quite troublesome for u personally, u'll have to start training her slowly. give her a sippy cup as what Ms Brittney Lesch mentioned. Then try explaining to her. But every kid's different... My girl won't abide so I've no choice but to nurse her to sleep. Just think of it as.. an " investment ". Our girls will be babies only once. So why not take this opportunity to the fullest and just enjoy it while it still lasts before they start talking back and being rebellious in years to come?? Cuz we WILL go through that phase whether we like it or not. But it's all up to you ok? Good Luck, dear!! :)

Personally I think you should have weened along time ago, but to each its own. I think you should take her off cold turkey, and give her milk in a sippy when she wants to nurse. She is old enough to know that is how she will now drink milk. Good luck
