Bikini Waxing

[deleted account] ( 11 moms have responded )

Since the birth of my kids, my skin has become really sensative to shaving, especially my bikini area. I'm a big fan of hitting the pool, but am tired of the red bumps and ingrown hairs, so I'm considering a bikini wax. I've never had one before, and neither have any of my friends, so I have no idea what to expect. Have you had one, and if so, what should I ask for, what should I expect, how much should it cost, etc?

I've done all sorts of bikini waxing from a regular wax to a full on brazilian. I love them. :-) I would recommend them to everyone. I don't think they hurt that bad, there's a sting when they pull the wax off, but it's like 3 seconds long and you forget about it. Like ripping off a band-aid (seriously). I've paid anywhere from $50 to $75 for them, depending on how much hair you have removed and how long it takes. If you have thicker coarser hair, it might run you more. They say you should not shave or trim for about a week before you go in (so the hair is easier to get ahold of). I also recommend bringing in some cortisone cream to put on right afterwards, that'll help with the stinging, redness and help prevent any ingrown hairs. If you want it completely gone--brazilian, if not, just the outer areas, ask for a regular bikini wax. Most of them will work with you, so if you want a shape, or if you want a little extra taken off, but not ALL of it. I'd love to hear how it goes! :-)

Whoo-hoo! I did it!! And I have to tell you, it wasn't nearly as excruciating as I had anticipated. Thanks for all the advice, ladies. This is definitely something I'll continue doing!

You need to be careful and make sure you go to a reputable place to have it done. I just read an article yesterday about how dangerous a bikini wax can be because it can leave you susceptible to infections that can be serious. They almost made Brazilian waxes illegal in New Jersey because two women were injured. I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it, but please be safe and go to someone who knows what they are doing.

Waxing has never worked out good for me. If you want to try something else I recommend shaving with coochy from pure romance. I have never had any ingrown hairs or bumps with it.

oh and also, it might take you a few tries at different places to find the one that does the best job. i went to three different places before i found the tiny little spa (run out of an old house with only one girl working there) and she does the best job by far!

i do the whole brazilian thing, and yes it does hurt, but only for a few seconds after each strip (swipe, rip, whatever you want to call it lol) most salons will offer quite a few different types of bikini waxes, so ask about each one if you aren't sure what they entail. i pay about 50 to 70, but as i said, i'm not just getting my bikini area done. but don't go the week before your period, and if you want you can take some Tylenol before you go. good luck :)

It will hurt but not as much as labour lol go to a reputable spa or salon, I have been to the cheapy places and have come home very bruised and they are questionably clean. you are way better off to spend the extra money. Also don't go the week before your period it will hurt way more!!
