Hi I have two kids and I am done having kids (all together or at least 6-7 years) I am wondering what others think about birth conrol methods. I don't like the pill so that option is off the list but what can you tell me about the others....iud, the arm one....others... Thanks

I've had Mirena for a year now, it has been great. no more having to remember to do anything till 5 years later! I don't really have any allergy symptom, so I think that everybody is different. I tried the patch and the ring before but both of them you still need to remember the weekly/ monthly cycle to switch to new ones; since we aren't planning on having another kid till like 3 years later, so we went for Mirena. I really like the part that I don't really get much period anymore! (Sometimes I totally forgot about periods! LOL) Hope this helped.

I have 4 children of my own and 2 step children and I got the IUD after my last one. The only complaint I have about it is that you still have cramping when you normally have your monthly cycle. I still have bleeding with mine every couple of months. And there hasn't been any weight gain with this one.

I used to be on Deppo. I will not go on it again because it made me gain a lot of weight. I was on it for 2 years and it took 2 years for my period to get straight again. I actually had a period for 28 days once when I got off it. Even after it was back to normal, they were more painful than before. I didn't get cramps in my stomach, but my shoulders hurt so bad that only Midol would help for 4 hours. Pamprin, aspirin, ibuprofen, ... nothing else helped. I would rub my shoulders so much they would be bruised. I could always feel it the night before I started my period. I'm guessing this is rare for someone who has taken deppo, but I will never take it again. It also took me 4 years after getting off the deppo to get pregnant i thought it caused me not to be able to have children.

I've been playing back and forth between implanon and mirena. I think i've settle on mirena because the implanon pamphlet says it can cause depression. I'm aleady bipolar so i don't want that. I'm also happy that i've been told that mirena is as effective as getting your tubes tied but that you can get pregnant immediately after getting it out. It lasts 5 years which is perfect because I want to wait to get pregnant until my daughter is 4 or 5

I have the arm one, only because I couldn't get the IUD because I've had an ectopic pregnancy before. I've had it about 3 or 4 weeks now. It didn't hurt at all. I was nervous and my hands were sweating because i was so scared it was going to hurt, but i didn't feel anything, i just looked away. It didn't hurt that much afterwards either. I can feel it under my skin and it freaks me out, and makes me feel like i want to take it out but now i'm getting used to it. the only thing i'm worried about is that they said bleeding is spuratick. also i'm worried about gaining weight.

Have you tried the Ring. It worked for me and then I stopped using it and within a month I was pregnant.. So if you wanted to try the ring I would say give it a go.. You have tp put it in yourself and leave it in for 3 weeks and the last week you get your period. and then you start all over again.. And it did not get in the way.. There is also the Depo shot.. but I everyone I know that had the depo said they gained weight while on it.. Alot of weight and I don't think that any women really wants that.. But then again everyone and every womans body is different.. I hope that this helps good luck...

I just started the Depo shot and it's nice not having to take a pill everyday but the average woman will gain 11 lbs on it and it can cause depression. I also was on the patch which wasn't bad but it made me itch.

My sister in law had the copper IUD and it made her sick, so she switched to the plastic IUD and was fine. I have had the plastic IUD for about 3 years and it has been great, but it made me lactose intolerant and gave me a mild wheat allergy. My doctor told me of a study that said up to 30 percent of women who use the plastic mirena IUD develop mild allergies of different kinds because of it.

My sister had the one in the arm and she hated it. It itched and to be honest looked a little creepy. She had removed not to long ago. I have had alot of friends who have had IUD's and they say they work great.
