Im not sure what bc you have tried, but I have been using an IUD(Mirena). I find it to be working very well. I had it inserted right after my 1st child in 06, then had it removed in 07 to have my 2nd child. After I had my 2nd child in 08, I had the IUD put back in. You only need to have it changed out every 5 yrs or unless you plan on having another baby before then. They remove the old one and put in a new one, its like having a PAP done. My husband and I do not use a condom with it and its been almost 3 yrs now and I have not gotten pregnant yet!! I hope it helps you

I've fallen pregnant on bc for almost all my boys. I currently don't take bc because I'm due to have my 4th son in the past 4-5 years now. My husband was also using condoms as well. Both my family doctor and OB last year finally said that bc doesn't work for me.

Ashleigh- I am 22 also :) You have to be 30 to get your tubes tied? I don't know where you live but here you have just have to be over 21, have at least 2 kids and wait 30 days before scheduling your actual surgery date so you have time to change your mind.

I have tried several different forms of birth control.. I would like to know opinions on the Mirena IUD.. how does it effect weight gain and hormone fluxuation? I was on the DEPO Prevera and it made me crazy, I got pregnant on the patch, and was just not happy with the application of the Nuva ring. I have tried the Implanon and gained way too much weight. So after I give birth this time I'm hoping to try an IUD so is it safe for breastfeeding?

I became pregnant while on the Pill, and have since found out that I can't take hormonal BC (my body rejects it or something). I can't use the copper IUD because I have a weird pH (I wear anything with even the slightest tinge of copper and I instantly go green). I'm also allergic to Nonoxyl-9(sp?) so no spermicide. Yeah... waiting til my husband can get a vasectomy. Getting my tubes tied is considered a life-threatening surgery (also allergic to anethestics). I'm totally screwed >_

if you bleed on the injection, then the coil in your arm will make you beeeld the same too. i went on the pill after my son, and i forgot the odd time. i got the injection, but i bled too for about a month, so i went back on the pill, after i was told that about the thing in your arm, the same stuff is in the injection and the arm coil. after i had my daughter i also used the pil, but in 5 days i forgot them 2 times. i used the patch, but i was not happy with it. doubts in my head. so i got the marina. i bleer maybe 2 days a month if even and i habv ehad it 2 years with mypartner, using nothng else, and i will be getting it again when my 5 years are up

I would definitely not do the Depo shot. I have been permantely messed up from being on that shot system. I was on that for almost three years and I gained so much weight from it. It's one of the side effects I thought I didn't have to worry about. Now ten years later I still can't keep the weight off and I still don't have a normal period. I only have a menstrual cycle maybe three times a year and I haven't been on any kind of bc since the Depo 7 years ago. If you are through having children I would suggest having your partner get a vasectomy or you get your tubes tied. I just don't want anyone to go through what I have had to all these years.

Yeh everyone has an iud. It just doesnt last long enough. With the copper "t" iud it can stay in place for ten years. Then when that comes out i am tying my tubes. Good luck to everyone. Hope you all continue to have great success.

I have three kids, eighteen months apart each, and all were conceived while I was on the pill (#2 and #3 I was using hormone only,) using condoms or another contraceptive, and the last two while breastfeeding. I'm not on the depo shot, and am not pregnant! Since my daughter is 12 months old, that's significant! I've decided to stop using depo, though, because it makes me feel simply horrid. I'm going back on the hormone only pill until my daughter self-weans, but have started using natural family planning (that is tracking my ovulation cycle and making sure to avoid intercourse during my most fertile days, using extra protection the rest of the time.) I would love to have some more babies in the future, but cannot handle another one right now!

The copper IUD and MIRENA are different. The Copper IUD is COPPER and MIRENA is PLASTIC.

I was on he pill when i got pregnant with my daughter and then 4 months after her birth i went on the merina IUD....had it in since 2007 and i love it! best invention ever!! I do not get my period anymore thanks to it, never gotten pregnant, and no weight gain, you don't have to worry about forgetting the pill or have to deal with getting shots every 3 months. Well worth the money in my eyes, when the times up which will be another 1 or 2 years i will definitely be getting another!

I got pregnant on the pill too.I am now using a copper IUD and it is good for 10 years the dr. told me it was more effective than getting my tubes tied. There have been no side effects that I've noticed which is great because the pill always made me gain weight and you dont have to worry about forgetting to take it.

I did not get preggers on bc. I had been off of it for almost 2 weeks when I got pregnant. I have used yaz or yasmine for 3 years now and I love it! It makes my pmdd sooo much better, I don't do the horomone rollercoaster, my periods are lighter, I just love it. The only downside is remembering to take it and refil my prescription!

I got pregnant the first time because GW Bush came to Ft. Hood the same day as my Gyno appointment and I was late because of the road blocks- true story. This time I was on the pill, but I wasn't very good at taking it. I'm hoping to have better luck in the future. But I have heard of people getting pregnant because of that .01% chance.

I have been on the IUD MIRENA since Jan. '09 and It is FANTASTIC! I have not gotten pg on it and I have not had any problems with it either. Neither have any of the other people that I have talked to that have had it. I also have talked to 3 other woman who after talking to me, have decided to go on it and they said it is great and are so happy that they choose this type of IUD (MIRENA). Also between 6-7 months your periods start becoming lighter and can even stop. After 2 1/2 weeks, mine were VERY light and after 2 months, they STOPPED! Hopefully this works for you if you choose it. Good Luck.

U can also try the rod its a little chip inserted in ur arm n stays there for three yr its the same medication as the depo shot but three yrs worth of it in the slow release form the good thing about it is if u have any unwanted side effects eg excessive bleeding or moodiness u can get it taken out the drug is straighht away outa ur system unlike the needle where u have to wait for it to run it three - four month course all the while stikl experiencing the sideeffects also good cause for three yrs u dint have to remember to take or change ne thing I had it but once again had bad sideffects so got it outta within three weeks n sideeffects went away straight away didnt have to wait months onlg down side is u get a tiny scar on the underneath of ur arm. If u have been using progesterone basef products maybe switch to a pill that uses other hormones as progesterone may not work for uu hence u keep getting pregnant

I cannot take anything with progesterone base to it eg most pills, iud, deporovera etc as I put on weight rapidly get very emotional n agro n moody so we were using the withdrawal method (im well awate of it poor success rate) as we werent that fussed if we did get pregnant but didnt want to 'plan' to get pregnant n after 2 yrs using the withdrawal method we were suprised to find out we had got pregnant now that im breast feeding n cant use progestrone based products we just use condoms EVERY time there is pill I can take that is not progestrone basef but cannot be taken while bf so im waiting till she self weans n will commence on that it is a special one used to help treat PCOS as I also suffer from that n was told I proberly couldnt convieve naturally or atleast without medical assistance even if I tried n well obviously I did n I
wasnt even trying.

Every state is different. I was living in PA instead of Texas at the time, and in PA you have to be 21yrs old to get a tubal. I was 23yrs old when I got mine done.

Ive tried 4 types of the pill, condoms, the implant in the arm and have problems with all of them ie:pregnancy or massive bleeding. I am now on the deporivera 3monthly needles but am not having sex so there wont be a pregnancy anytime in my future, but as with the rest i have been bleeding more then when i am not on bc. I am currently on my 29th dsy of bleeding. People have suggested an iud but im notto sure if that will work either.

I was on the pill when I became pregnant. I was on a super busy schedule with school, work, and the schools externship program. So with 3 different schedules going I can say I wasnt the best at taking it everyday, and to make it worse that was the only thing we were relying on (no condoms or spermacide).
I am now on the patch which is so much easier for me, I only need to remember once a week and we also use condoms. We learnt from our mistake.
