My daughter will be turning 8 and unfortunately my husband and I have not been financially stable enough to spend 300-400 on birthday parties so we usually do something small maybe cake and ice cream every year just for family. Well a family member offered to pay for my daughter a birthday party because she really wants a skating party. Well the family member specified that she would love to pay for the party however she will not pay for teenagers and older kids since they will not be interested in celebrating my daughters birthday but only come to the party out of obligation to family. The problem i have with this is those people who she wants to omit are the faithful family members that come to her cake and ice cream party every year and I am really torn on giving my daughter her special day or canceling the whole this out of feeling like I should do what is right and that is have everyone or no one. Any advice?

@Mary Chaisson Do you have a skating park nearby that's not as expensive at a skating rink? Birthday parties can get quite expensive, and believe me, I know you want what's best for your child, especially harder when finances are a bit tight. I am a stay-at-home mom to a 14month old, and recently threw his 1 yr old birthday party, it wasn't cheap, considering we only have my boyfriend's income. There is nothing wrong with help with family members. Sometimes, you just got to go that route. You can always go cheaper directions with food, possibly making the cake yourself, for party items, there's ton of cheap available items at your nearest dollar store. It worked out well for us. Pinterest.com has plenty of wonder ideas you can stream along with your budget. I used a spreadsheet to console our budgeting and we ended up spending less. Hope this info helps! Good luck and happy birthday to your daughter! :)
