My son is going to be 4 next month and I'm starting the planning process now. My biggest problem is my family and my husbands family don't really get along, and it makes things very frustrating in regards to his birthdays as he always seems to miss seeing one side. Another issue I've come to face is his friends, do we do separate parties for his friends and family or do we put them together? This is his first birthday with actual friends due to the fact that he has trouble making them because he was diagnosed with ASD. I'm literally so lost with this and really have no idea what to do in regards to any of it. any FRIENDLY advice is welcome, please no rude remarks or comments

I would be inviting all the family and making sure they understand that if they can't be civil for a few hours then to not bother coming. It is your son's day, not theirs and they are adults so they need to act like it.

I would rather not have to exclude any of either family, as I am married to my sons father, it would be rude and would cause a war in my home if I did, war is just not something that is welcome in my home, much like negativity. I've asked him who he would like to invite and I have yet to get a straight answer from him.

Here is a thought how about you do a small party with your parents you and your child's friends only and then you do not have to deal with the two families the smaller the party the better for the child. I say you also need to ask the child who he wants there he is old enough to understand that. Sad part is that the families can not get along for the child and not themselves I hated dealing with that in the past but now I am signal and do not gotta worry about nothing.
