My son is 13 months old and he has a habit of biting. When he gets frustrated or excited he bites. He's broken skin on my shoulder several times, he bites strangers noses and chins. I've tried giving him a swat on the bottom, I've told him no, I've even tried lightly biting him back. Any suggestions to get him to stop?

Give him a little flick on the cheek or start crying. These things have both work for babies in my family. The flick worked for my nephew when he was nursing and started to get teeth. He never bit his mom again. And the crying worked for my 15 month old nephew when he developed the same habit. hope this helps.

Quoting Megan:

I've tried pushing back, but it doesn't work... he bites harder and grinds his teeth on whatever he's biting... He also bites when he's already on the floor.. he'll walk up to me if i'm sitting on the couch and take a chunk out of my leg... I'm really hoping this is all just one big phase... Grannicks Bitter Apple Spray... hmmm... that's a good idea, but I might have to bathe in it lol! Thanks for the info though I'll give it a try!

thats the only thing i know to do it has always worked with me so idk

The moment he bites he gets put on the floor. When he wants to be picked up again simply tell him "I don't want to hold you. You bite me. I don't like it when you bite me." After a few times of this he'll probably quit. Another thing you can do, and this will sound really weird but is DOES work and it's safe, is go to a pet store and buy Grannicks Bitter Apple Spray. Apply copious amounts to your shoulder or common areas he likes to bite (it is alcohol based so be careful about spaying it on open wounds). Once he gets a mouth full of that flavor he will NEVER want to bite again. And it is safe...as long as you don't let him drink it. :)

well the only way that i know to get any child to stop with out really hurting them or your self is (when he bites you on the arm or some were like that push back aginst the bite ) it will not hurt them to bad it just shows your child that its not ok to bite and really it hurts you a lot more then it hurts them trust me
