My son does not have bowel movements as consistent as i thought he should. I was told that it could vary from every 3 days to once a week because I am breastfeeding. He tends to strain alot and it concerns me... has anyone had these concerns as well???

My daughter used to do that too. She is breastfed and aparantly breast milk doesnt have a lot of waste. I was told as long as she didnt seem in pain it was fine to leave it until she nexted poop. Sometimes she would go 14days. She always seemed like she was straining, but when her poop came out it was just a normal runny breastfed one. I think thats just normal to your baby and mine too. it took ages for me to stop worrying about it though. If you are concerned if you call up your docter they will just reassure you.

My son never has had an issue with his bowels - when he was months old he would go every other diaper and now still goes once a day and maybe skips a day here and there. (He's almost 15 mos.) However, if you are really concerned you should talk to your doctor. Could it be that he isn't getting enough milk throughout the day or too much? Always keep in close contact with your doc and the nurses at the pediatricians office. A lot of times they will talk with you over the phone and tell you what you can do without having to making and office visit.
