Boy name suggestions please! Thoughts on finding out sex?

I'm 15 weeks into my first pregnancy, and although my hubby and I have been debating names for nearly 2.5 years (TTC for 2 years before success), we just can't agree on any boys names!

Here's the main problem.... I want something that is fairly unusual, but not spelt differently (I spent my life until marriage spelling my surname every five minutes and hated it!) and it needs to be 'special' - except that I don't know what 'special' is! I'm also reluctant to use those gorgeous names that have been so popular lately (i.e. Harrison, Lachlan etc) We have a list of 5 or 6 girls names and have pretty much decided on one, but we could just as easily have a boy :-) The name also needs to go nicely with Richard - my family-in-law's tradition is to have the father's name as the second name of the first boy.

We are also undecided as to whether we should find out the sex of our bub at the 18 week scan... we're completely undecided!

Many, many thanks ladies!

I never found out the sex and I thought it was alot more fun. It drove my husband crazy. He hates supprises but he went along with it anyway. For my next kids I am not going to find out the sex agian. To me it wasnt that big of a deal not knowing. We bought ever mutual so we can use them for other kids.

I think it goes both ways, I'm 30wks with my 4th.. and we found out with all of them, I didnt want to with my first but made a deal with my husband. now I wish I hadn't with my 4th cuz its our 3rd boy and my daughter(oldest) and I were both really hoping for a girl, I think I'd have had less time to be disappointed if I hadnt found out cuz I know once they put him in my arms I wont care, but knowing for 4 months gives me time to wish for another girl.

as for names... mine are a mix, I have a Malakai Paul, Matthew Ranen, and my husband is voting for Mavrick Robert... (which I dont really care for) so I'm not much help on the boys names.

my friend has all boys and really likes Aiden, Barak, Torrin, Reese, Riley, Regan, and a bunch of other interesting ones... her name is Mindy and she's on my circle, she always has a ton of unique name ideas, and knows the meaning too...

Ladies, thank you so much! We're still terribly mixed up over boys names, so PLEASE keep them coming! As for finding out the sex, I've made the executive decision that if we're still undecided at our 18 week scan in 2 weeks we won't find out :)

Kristi Bishop - your boys names are gorgeous, and just the sort of 'special' we're after, I think. I really like that the nicknames are still everyday, while the full name is different! I'm right behind you with Maxwell for the new bub - it's my dad's name :) I don't think I've ever met another Maxwell either.

Jamie Massie - thanks for the tip on long names! It's not something I'd considered and I'm now re-working some of our girl names - I'm not too keen on having to write an incredibly long name 50 million times when our bub does arrive :s

As I said above, thank you to everyone for your wonderful suggestions - our list of boys names has gone from just a middle name to four or five possibles. Who knows - a name I'm not sure about this week may just 'click' next week and be perfect... I've been so scatterbrained and hypocritical since I fell pregnant!

My hubby and I didn't find out the sex of the baby with our first two.  I know it's not common to do that, but we are so glad we went for the surprise!!  We just feel like when life hands you a surprise it's {usually} a bad one...and your baby is the best surprise that God can give you!!! :o)  Plus, I really enjoy being pregnant, and I have generally easy pregnancies and labors.  Everyone always asks how mom is doing, and they kinda forget about dad.  So, when our boys were born, my hubby was the one to tell me that we were the proud parents of boys!!  It definitely made the pregnancies more fun for him!!

However...this isn't always the case.  I'm 26 weeks preggo {one of those good-ol' surprises from God...} and we decided to find out this time.  We were both hoping for a girl this time around, but we found out that we're having another boy!!  It was fun and exciting to see that part of the ultrasound, since we hadn't before...but we still wouldn't change the fact that we didn't find out with our first two.

As for finding boy names....I am totally with you on how hard it is to find something 'special'.  We like classic names with a twist.  Our oldest is Bennett Allan {we liked the option of him going by Ben...but Benjamin was too common, and we didn't want people to call him Benji...when he's older if he doesn't like Bennett, and Allan is a name that runs on both sides of the fam}.  And, our second son is Weston Andrew {just like Bennett and Ben, we chose Weston for Wes...Wesley is too common/known}.  For the next boy we are thinking Maxwell {for Max} Adam...but still undecided.

It's such a big deal naming a child...it's something they will always have, and you don't want them to want to change it when they get older!!!

As to finding out the sex with my first 2 I found out but with my 3rd because of it crossing it's legs we weren't able to find out and it's so much more exciting not to know.  I'm 33 weeks pregnant and really looking forward to the birth, it seems to take away some of the natural fear of labour for me :)

As for boys names I like Ashley's suggesstion of Logan but there is also Zach, Liam and Adam. Adam seems to be a name that has all but disappeared I'd love it for one of my boys but my partners awkward surname prevents it un fortunately.

I found out. It makes it alot easier in my opinion. You have everything ready and not 200000000 things in yellow and green.

How about Landon Richard.

My husbands name is Michael. My son's name is Elijah Michael.

They also told me my son was a girl (it turns out that the cord was wrapped around his leg and hid the jewels

My husband and I decided to wait with our twins and it made the birth so much more exciting!!! Sure knowing in advance helps with shopping but you can buy gender neutral things in advance and then specific after the baby is born. At times I wanted to find out but am so glad we waited. My boys are Aiden and Noah...Noah I knew was common but hadn't heard of many Aiden's but now it's everywhere! Aubrey, Boyd, Issac are all strong but not terribly common names. When you come across it, you'll know! Good luck!

I know how you feel! Though for different reasons. LOL! My hubby and I are expecting our 4th at the end of the month. We tried to find out but one scan said boy and one scan said girl. So we're doomed to wait and have a surprise. For us though, already having one son and two daughters, we're prepared either way for whatever the sex is! All our big stuff, crib, playpen, exersaucer, swing, carseats, strollers, etc.. all that stuff is unisex, we never saw the point of boying or girling them up. LOL! Just waiting now to find out what clothes we'll be using. haha.

As for the names, I'm not much help. We have a boy name picked out... Robert Micheal Graham but for a girl we're really struggling. That's probably because we already have two girls though and already used the names we really liked so we're hitting the baby books and looking online for inspiration. If you google Baby Genie it's a neat tool. We've gotten some ideas from that but no name for sure yet.

Best of luck and congrats on your little one!!! =D

"I wanted my last child to be a "surprise" on the sex but i wanted to start buying stuff and didnt know what colors to get. I already had 3 girls and i just knew in my heart that i would have another but i finally told the dr that i wanted to know and he said "Its A Boy!!!!!"

Oh i was so excited that i cried. (:

But i think you should find out that way you can start purchasing blue or pink....and your friends and family know what to get him/her for your baby shower.

But i really wanted to name my son Ethan but my fiance insisted i name my son after him to now i have Joshua Randolph Jr. (:

Ethan Richard sounds good i think.

i also like the name Logan....thats my cousins sons name and i adore it.

Hayden Richard????

But they are just suggestions....

I wanted to find out who was in my belly as soon as possible.  We had names all decided, so once we knew if the baby was a boy or a girl we could talk to them using their name.  My oldest son would actually respond to his name in utero, it was really cool.  :)

Here are some name suggestions:

Declan, Nolan, Jovan, Elliot, Roman, Dominick, Oren

Good Luck!

I'm having my first baby and I wanted to find out the sex to make it easier to get prepared with stuff before it's born, and to make it easier to pick out name.  I like Cedar, Clay, Trent, Diangelo, and some X names.  We decided to go with Raven though because of all the mythology and they have the biggest brains of birds.  Plus the dad is a Rave promotor :)

I think finding out the sex is the best part, lol. Then when you go shopping you can find all the cute stuff and dont have to stick with neutral colors. I dont know about different names, my oldest hes my Step son, his name is Jace, its my husbands nick name, my husbands name is Jason. Mackenzie is my daughter and Andrew is my son. Andrews middle name is Talan and thats kind of different.  But can I make one suggestion, lol, dont pick long names. my daughter has a long name, and it takes forever to write it out.
