my 9 month old has a very bright red rash on his "peter".

i just noticed it this morning and don't know if it could be diaper rash or if I should call the doctor. I don't want to call and bug the doctors if it is something simple but I also don't want to wait too long and have it turn into something else. Can anyone tell me if thats where boys get their diaper rash?

Ok this is JMO but if it is a BRIGHT red rash it may be a yeast infection. I know most people do not understand that boys/men can get these too but they can! I would suggest using an anti fungal cream (think athletes feet powder/cream). Tinactin powder or something similar. Its not going to hurt him at all to try it for a day or two. I would not use any over the counter yeast infection treatment for women as these have TOO much alcohol in them and can burn the babies sensitive skin. Let me know if you try this and it works or not!

yes my son would sometimes get diaper rash there. i mean, it is always rubbing against the diaper. just use some rash cream or even vaseline. it should go away quickly.

Thanks! I put on some cream and he is crawling around making my floors white :). It doesn't seem to be bothering him but if it doesn't go down by tomorrow I will go get some of the anti-fungal cream. thanks so much for all the advice! Will update when I figure something out.

could be a yeast infection, my son gets a red rash on his penis all the time from yeast. Any anti-fungal cream from the drug store can help with that, but you may want to ask your doctor first. The best cure for any in the diaper area rashes is just good old fashioned naked baby butt time!!!

My son is just getting over the same thing. I took him to the clinic and they perscribed him an ointment and it's pretty much gone. The doc said it's because the warmer weather which causes sweat, so because it's always warm and damp, mixed with the amonia of the urine can cause infection in the area. He also told us to let him be naked for a minimum of 20 mins a day.

when i left the hospital the nurse told me at every changing to put vaseline on his boys to prevent diaper rash but thats what it sounds like to me use some cream and he should be fine. also running around with no diaper on is good..

It's probably a combination of diaper rash and the warmer weather lately. My son gets that in the summer. I agree with Pam...let him run around without a diaper after his bath for a bit to ensure dryness. I also put some baby powder on him before bed-time to help absorb some of the moisture. But, hey...don't worry about "bugging" your pediatrician. That's what they're there for. Most doctor's offices have a nurse line that you can just call and talk to a nurse and see if they think it's something worth coming in for.

my boys usually get a diaper rash on the legs or behind, not to much on their penis. i would just try some diaper cream. try not to use vaseline, it clogs their pores. if it hasn't gone away or gotten better in a day or two, call the dr just to make sure.

my son who is eight now ysed to get them all the time its usually just a diaper rash. i used to used balmex or some other diaper rash cream. also if its warm my pediatrician told me to let him walk around naked because fresh air is the best thing for a diaper rash. Hope this helps. good luck
