When is the best time to start trying all the different ways people have said to bring on labour e.g sex, raspberry leaf tea, walking etc etc? (How long does it take to actually start working)

I had a friend who did all the teas, herbs, walking, etc...never worked for her or me! The only thing that i KNOW has worked for me and about 99% of my friends is, intercourse, intercourse, intercourse. And not to get too detailed, but for this to work, your partner must "finish" inside of you. It is the proteins in the semen itself that gets your cervix to soften and "move along"...no lie, not even 24 hrs after having sex and my water broke and labor started! GOOD LUCK

37 weeks is a good time, I got told. They start calling that full term Just don't try caster oil, It can do damage to your insides. Take a long worm bath, Go for a long walk. If your baby is active you'll have an easy labour, If your baby is quiet then you'll probably have a long labour and nothing will bring it on. You just need to make your servix soft. Making love to your partner is a good way. If you can, The baby might already be engaged.

Whatever you do DON'T USE CASTOR OIL! ! ! ! I wasn't so smart my first pregnancy and was ready to get the show on the road. Took a tablespoon of castor oil and two hours later was in worse pain than I had experienced with labor.

Go to the mall! I didnt mean to bring labour on, but at 38 weeks I decided to take my last trip alone to the mall... no baby to worry about.... I wallked all over the place looking at everything for hours! I was so exhausted by the end of my day, and that same day I started getting contractions.... but it wasnt until 3 days later that she finally came.

Baby will come when ready... I was extremely tired of being pregnant went to the doctor for my 39 week checkup I was dilated 1 cm and I could feel my baby all in my pelvis and she was kicking me in the ribs 2... After the doctor I walked and went to my bf's house that night we had sex(yes semen softens the cervix) and a couple hours later I was in labor it was slow and I had to get induced but the sex did start me off!!! Good luck I was 2 scared to try anything else

I jumped once on the spot when I was 36 weeks and I went into labour that night (not intentional!). My sister tried the same thing when she was days before her due date and it didn't work, so what works for one person may not work for you.

I was anxious to get my daughter out, at 38 weeks I could hardly walk, I had been dialated to three for 2 weeks, and her head was so low it made sitting without a donut impossible! Out of all of your homeopathic options I just wanted to let you know a little more about them. My family is holistic and my uncle is a holistic dr, so Im pretty well informed :)

The raspberry leaf tea only really helps to tone the uterus to make labor easier, but it doesnt induce or cause labor. Its good for other things too, like your cervix, bladder and digestive system and is safe to drink throughout the whole pregnancy.

Black Cohosh taken in tandem with Blue Cohosh is said to have induced labor, but has more of a muscle relaxation effect, and has been used in natural births to help ease labor pains and help labor progress more smoothly, do not take these in your first or second trimester as they have also been used to abort

Castor Oil is the most commonly used supplement to induce labor and has a higher success rate than any of the ones Ive listed above. It works by stimulating your bowels to contract which in turn makes your uterus contract(you know that nasty diareah pain you can get during your period...lol) It can sometimes cause you to have loose stools for a hour or so after taking it but has no negitave side effects other than diahreah linked to it... it tasted like crayon and goes down better with rootbeer. About 4-6 tablespoons can bring on labor within 12 hours with a lower chance of diahreah.

You should only use methods to induce labor when you are 38+ weeks pregnant, letting the baby come on its own is always the best option, but sometimes thats just not feesable :) Hope I helped you a little!

My doctor was going out of town around the time my baby was due..So he said as long as I was 37 weeks and everything looked good he would induce..But I hadnt so about a week before he was leaving, he told me to go home and have sex as much as I could. Medically proven, semen thins the cervix..and once you thin out dialation comes lots faster and easier..Dont know if it helps:) Congrats and good luck

I understand where you are coming from! My rib pain was insane. I asked my doctor if he had any advice or thoughts on "attempting" to induce my own labor- he just laughed. He said none of the things that people do have actually been "proven" to work, but he told me I could go ahead and give it a whirl- that it wouldn't hurt (at this point I had around 2 weeks to go). I couldn't wait any longer, so I started having sex (not that I wasn't before) every few hours...I went walking twice a day (not fun)...drinking large amounts of orange juice...and I even drank castor oil!!!!! After 4 days...my water broke. I was only a week and a half early, she came out healthy at 7lbs 11oz! I hope this helps ;)

[deleted account]

sex will only work if your body is already ready to go. RRL tea is for preping the uterus not for inducing. Nothing will work unless your body is ready to start. As hard as it is, just let it happen when its supposed to. Once early labor starts and you are dilating - have sex, walk, etc. that is when those methods work.

I agree! Let labour come on naturally! I was in the hospital for 20 days prior to giving birth and I tried everything, pineapple, tea, i walked MILES! B/C i had complications and twins I was induced... THREE TIMES! And once it finally took I was in the most painful stage of hard labour INSTANTLY! It was horrid! I had to take morphine and was in HARD labour for 18 hours before I had the girls! Now if we ever have another.. I would choose to be 42 weeks before I even though of inductions!

Guess What...your baby will come when he/she is ready. I tried all of those things plus a hospital induction with cervidill and pit. Nothing happened and they sent me home. I continued to try all of those wives tales for the next week to no avail. Finally after another hospital induction my son finally arrived just 1 day before his due date. It was torture waiting and I had to leave work a week and a half early because we thought the first induction would take. My first lesson in motherhood...the best laid plans....

Or... just for poops and giggles... try the Prego Pizza from Skipolini's. http://www.skipolinispizza.com/prego.php It's so delicious!!! I don't know where you live, but I've heard stories of women having it "same day delivery" and eating it and later that day going into labor. If anything that pizza totally hits the spot. I tired it however it didn't seem to do anything. My daughter is stubborn and has always been. Good luck. What I think really got my baby out was the ocean. I went body surfing 6 days after my due date and she came out shortly after.

I was very uncomfortable while I was pregnant (who wasnt I know lol) but I made it my goal to get that kid out lol I walked all it did was bring on the contractions, Spicy food, Castor Oil (DO NOT DO THIS ALL IT DOES IS MAKE YOU PUKE AND POOP AT THE SAME TIME hahah) Best method was sex. The night I went into Labor my hubby and I had sex at 1:00 am at 1:30 am my water broke 3 weeks early but I thought I peed myself I asked him to sniff my underpants to make sure it wasnt pee (BUT HE WOULDNT, soooo not a team player LMAO) low and behold here came my little man 3 weeks early :) that worked for me! but I'll keep m fingers crossed for you that you go naturally (water breaking of course i mean, im pro drugs ahaha) bc I had the best experience with my water breaking and labor and delivery and the doctors said it was bc it wasnt forced my body did it all on its own!!! Joseph Michael came! lol then my youngest Luke my water broke about 9pm got to the hospital at 12am he was out just before 3am so he was a little slower...sex always worked for us...Joseph came a few days early before his actual due date and Luke was the same. they dont always work and id say around 38 weeks is he best time to start trying. the best one i can advise is drinking raspberry leaf tea twice a day and have a bath slighty above body temp and add a couple of drops of pure lavinder oil, i did that a and my son was 10 days early and my labour was 2hours and 21mins lond and was my first.

wow lucky you! thanks for the advice

We went the intercourse home induction route lol and I went into labor that night. I was dilated to 3cm the first time they checked me at 36 weeks and he was born the day before 39 weeks. As my childbirth class teacher delicately put it, you have to let yourself 'marinade' lol.

yeah i was told that works the best because of  the prostaglandins in the semen help to ripen and thin the cervix... however i was unlucky in that area because my daughters father and i were no longer together so i really had no donations in that department lol... which that is another reason the evening primrose was suggested to me because it also its an excellent source of prostaglandins....

i would let your baby come on their own time sweetie.. i know its hard and exciting but well worth the wait... however some advice during your last week.. sorry if its TMI.. I used EPO (evening primrose oil). i inserted one vaginally every night (wear a pad or panti liner it gets messy) it helps to thin and ripen the cervix but it also helps to moisterize the vaginal walls... my midwife and doctor reccommended this to me and hey it works and suprisingly i delivered with no rips or tears of the vagina... good luck hope this was of any help at all

I tried the castor oil with my second child I did castor oil and rootbeer its called a midwife cocktail. not so tasty lol....I took it at 6pm on sunday and had him 10:45 the next morning. I was 3 weeks away from my due date and so uncomfortable. he was so far down in the birthcanal I could feel the pressure and felt like he was going to just fall out lol. I woke up monday morning with crampy feelings and by 9 am came around my contractions were very close we left for the hospital got there at 945 am and had him one hour one minute later. talk about nurses running around lol they didnt think i was going to go that quick. I had no problems what so ever with the castor oil however my sister did have diareah and it didnt work for her.

I kinda had a feeling that the right time was getting close even though I had a couple weeks left. So I did lots of walking to help things along. The night before I had my little girl I had Taco Bell and then went bowling. This is going to sound silly but this was my second pregnancy that I had Taco Bell and then went into labor just hours later haha. I had her two weeks before my due date but she weighed 8lbs. 3oz. I guess I was right in thinking it was time to come.

Wait for the baby to drop. You'll be able to tell when she does. I remember waking up one morning and going "Woah, suddenly my belly is all the way down there now...weird" and a few weeks later I went into labor on my own. I couldn't do the sex thing because I was high risk. I...uhh...went solo for a while to help the contractions that I was having off and on for weeks. But ultimately, baby will come when she's damn good and ready. And sometimes that seems like eternity. :/

You should let your body go into labor on it's own. Don't rush it! I know that towards the end of your pregnancy you can get really uncomfortable and ready to meet your little one but be patient and let your body do what it will naturally do :)
