My husband and I are thinking about going camping with our ten month old. Does anyone have suggestions on how to make this a baby friendly activity?

We have been camping with our son quite a lot - the first time when he was 5 weeks old. My suggestion would be to make sure you have lots of changes of clothes because you never know what is going to happen. Our son was just happy to be out and about and even loved just sitting in his pram most of the time because there was something new to look at. Have fun camping!!

I camped with my little guy. His first trip to the campground we didn't camp overnight but we did wander around for the day. The second time to the campground was end of July/start August - he would have been 3 months old. He slept in his rocking chair with lots of blankets and we went home when we got too cold one night (we live 45 minutes from the grounds).

The third time camping he was 4.5 months old and we used the same chair. He was bundled up really well for overnights and we kept close by where we could hear his call if he woke. We had a great time!

We went camping during the May long weekend this year - his birthday was the holiday Monday! :) Now THAT was a cold camping trip. We have a double sized playpen (double a pack n go) - like it's length is the width of a queen bed. I loaded the bottom with blankets and put baby in 3 layers - onesie, long johns and jammies, plus blankets - of course he moves when he sleeps and kicks off the blankets anyway. We went home the first night because it was too cold and stayed over the second night. It was GREAT!

Bring mosquito netting for your stroller or playpen, you can get Off or some bug spray that is okay to use once a day on infants - better yet, just spray their clothes instead of their skin - baby hat, sunscreen (coppertone makes an SPF 50 that is good for babies older than 6 months). And for sleeping, plan for COLD nights - watch your weather channel, bring lots of blankets or a baby sleep sack if you can get a LONG one. Your local children's supplier may sell infant sleeping bags too.

This summer my now-13-month-old will probably be walking by the time we get to our July/August camping trip.

Have fun!! :) It's a real blast camping with your LO the first time!

i took my son camping for the first time when he was about 6 months, and we really didn't bring all that much extra. bring a portable chair (i brought his bumbo seat), some balls to play with, stuff to play in the sand with (if you are going to see sand lol) and an extra deck of cards (one for use to play with and one for him to play with/eat lol) bring lots of extra blankets to put down on the ground for him to play on. and bring some books! in my experience, they are pretty content to just be somewhere interesting!
