the thought of having a water birth never occured to me but after having my 1st and spending most of labour in the bath with the hot water shower hose running over me i would definitely consider it 2nd time round. it was soo relaxing and really helped with the pain

i didn't have a water birth but i didn't have time!! spent my labour in the bath and shower tho, in and out it helped alot with the pain. but i had my Ashlin with in 30 minutes of getting to the hospital, so i didn't have options !!

I haven't, both times I had to be educed plus the last one was with twins so I had a epidural.

Plus side of having a water birth is that you are less likely to tear as the water softens your skin. Also it is said to be less painful. This is a really good pain relief because unlike with epidurals where you are more likely to need an assisted delivery or with pethidine where the baby can be born really sleepy there are no major down sides.

Make sure your hospital has a birthing pool and remember somebody else may have it first so have a back up birth plan.

I drank lots of water with both of mine as that softens your skin too though not as well. I had no drugs for my first born, I was able to have hot showers every now and then and also hot cloth nappies worked really well to help with pain. I guess the combination of the fact i have huge hips, the showers and drinking water AND the position I was in for the birth attributed to my not tearing with an 8lbs 14 baby.

im planning a water birth at home in october!! this will be my first so im not experienced but everything i've reserched on it is right for me its supposed to be second best to epidurals!! i want a drug free labour and the water will help me with this, i also want to do it at home because there will be less oppertunity for interferance by impatient doctors so it will abe as natural as possible and i think it'l be more relaxed with my music, candles, burning oils i even have a laser light for the walls!! but saying all this im not going to say no to transfer if theres an emergancy i'll do whats best for baby! its just down to the indvidual, when are you due? if i go first i'll let you know about the pool x
