Can I eat fish while pregnant?

Let me start by saying I hate fish, I never eat it, but I am pregnant now and craving fish. I bought some and when I eat it it doesn't taste good but it feels good when it hits my stomach. I tried to look up what is in fish so I could find a substitute but all I found was conflicting opinions about whether you should eat it while pregnant or not. So now I really don't know what to do. I always try to listen to my body when I have healthy cravings but I'm not sure now if it's healthy or not!

What I have heard that eating fish is fine as long as its the right type and quantity. Dont choose a fish that is high in mercury mackerel, tilefish, shark, sword fish, watch the tuna as well albacor, chuck white tuna. I wouldnt go anymore than 8 ounces a week for fish that dont have high mercury levels. Fish is very healthy and full of iron, just be careful to not each too much.Shrimp crab salmon catfish cop talapia are good chooses

Actually, Ashley, fish should be avoided during pregnancy because it CAN cause harm to your unborn child (and no, it isn't just worried parents, there is research to back that up). Raw fish can contain various parasites, and more importantly, all fish, cooked OR raw, contains a high amount of mercury. Both of these could potentially have a negative effect on your baby.

Robin, I am not sure why you would be craving fish. I see your point, though, that there is possibly something in fish that you are lacking. Fish is high in vitamin B, could this be it?

Don't worry, of course its fine. Eating fish never hurt anyone, raw or cooked. I am pregnant and I eat sushi. Honestly there are a lot of things you can choose to worry about during pregnant and most of them are just a waste of time and cause you unnecessary stress. I think pregnancy just makes the naturally worried woman even more paranoid, but that's really all it is.

I also dont like fish, but if you eat fish make sure its fresh and cooked. I wouldnt eat sushi or fish thats still raw. I would say if you are craving for fish and your body accepts it ,it shouldnt be a problem.
