My 8 year old daughter is a bigger girl for her age and she always has been. She swears that she has seen a darkish substance when wiping after going to the bathroom. Could she really be getting her period this early on? She has been showing some signs like moodiness, breast growth and b.o. and needing to use deodorant. Do you think I should wait it out and see or call the doctor tomorrow??

I would contact your family doctor. It is very possible. There was a 5 year old in our area who began menstruating and she has had a high body fat content, breasts and needed deodorant. You will need to speak with a doctor as young puberty does require extra care.

I just recently read almost the same question in a health magazine the other day about a nine year old.The experts answer was that its most probably the period but also to go to the doctor to find out about hormones.

this is totally normal you should alert your docter however. if your doughter is not upset by finding out about her period than neither should you. ;D :)

It could very well be her period...I started at 9yrs old and have heard of girls starting at younger ages.
