Chemical Pregnany or False positive? I am torn apart!

[deleted account] ( 13 moms have responded )

Last month my husband and I got a positive EPT test.
First I peed on was negative I then threw it away and about 10 minutes later I came back down took it out of the trash and it read positive..Then I ran over to CVS and bought several differnt test and they all came out negative......I probably took close to 30 test mostly from the dollar store! I was so scared.
My husband and I were shocked since we were not trying for a baby at time. We weren't really preventing either unless you call the pull method preventing. A week later I had my normal period.
I was reading about Chemical pregnancies and I have NO IDEA if it was a false postive, a chemcial pregnancy or what. My husband and I are praying to have another one soon now that we have maternity coverage addded to our policy..

I pray that i didn't have a chemical pregnancy because I was told you would have to wait 3 or 4 months before trying again. Any suggestions? Ideas?

If you threw the test in the bin then there could have been something in there that made it read positive. That's why you're not supposed to touch the test area. I would just ignore that.

u could wait the time just in case or go to the doctor and inform them of what had happened, but if all the other test's were neg, then it most likely was neg. good luck

Have you gone to the doctor to get a blood pregnancy test done? Urine tests have NEVER worked on me even 6 weeks into my pregnancy.

Why would you have to wait since most chem pregnancies the person doesn't even know it just happens when their period is due.

Pregnancy tests test for higher doses of a chemical that is already in every woman's body. That is why they say to look at the results after only a certain ammount of time. Eventually the tests will react to the natural ammount of that chemical that is in your system (without being pregnant). If it only turns positive well after the allotted time, it just means that it is an old test. Good luck on getting pregnant again, though.

I saw a show on Untold Stories of the ER where a girl was supposed to be pregnant when in actuality they had mice in the house and their fecal matter has a toxin that somehow fools tests into saying you're positive.

And if all the other ones were negative, then I'd scrap that first one's results. If you really want to make sure, though, go to your doctor and have an official test done. As for trying to have another baby now, I don't see why not. Consult a doctor about it if you have doubts.

rebekah is correct about not trusting the results after the time limit. the instructions that came with your test will tell you this.

I wouldn't worry about it to much if you have had so many negative tests. If you are too worried about it then I would talk to the doctor...and I have been through a miscarriage just last year and my physician told me that I only had to wait 1 month to try again...most likely tho it was just a false positive

And the new advice about miscarriages is that it's only necessary to wait one cycle. So after your NEXT cycle it's okay to try for another baby. I did after one of my miscarriages and got pregnant the next month and had a healthy baby girl.

Most pregnancy test instructions warn against reading results after the time-limit... So, I'm thinking since you looked at it past it's "expiration" time then it's not valid.

A chemical pregnancy is just an early miscarriage, right!? I've had a pretty early miscarriage and it was pretty obvious b/c my period was heavier and contained more matter and clumps of stuff. I really think you'd know...

Was it a test with blue dye? I have seen those get false positives myself. Since the rest of them came back negative I am guessing it was just a random bad test. I would not worry about it and go about your plan to start trying.

Maybe you should just wait 3 or 4 months so you don't have that worry over your head. The stress this is causeing could make it difficult to hold a baby anyway.
