Hi, I have a little girl whos 18 months and i know shes ready to start being pottty trained because she takes off her own diaper and shes already used the toliet twice...once for pee and once for poo but i went and bought her a potty and she wont take the time to sit...she wants to get up. I have pull-ups but she just uses like a normal diaper...what can i do to make her want to go? What are some techniques that i can try? how can i get her to communicate to me when she has to go?

yea, my daughter won't ever poop in her diaper. She poops when i remove the diaper which makes me feel that we can start the potty-training process.

my daughter penny is almost 2 i have been trying her on the toilet since she was 18 months trying to skip the potty stage and just using a little seat on the toilet. at the moment i only sit her on there when she has done a poo, we tip the poo into the loo from her nappy then she sits on the toilet, nothing yet i think she is too distracted by the idea of toilet paper and wen i dont give her anymore she just wants to hop down. she hasnt shown any signs she is ready yet.

There is baby sign language. I don't know the sign myself but you can learn the sign for 'potty' or 'bathroom' or something and teach her that when she sits on the potty. Basically just use repetition... say the word and do the sign at the same time while she's doing the action (when you sit her on the potty). This is what I am going to have to do with my daughter as she's just under 13mo old and I believe she's ready to start the potty training process, and she of course can't speak to me with words yet.

Wow! What a great idea!! Thanks Nicile :) I had just started potty train my daughter as well. She's almost 2 now, she has only peed in her potty twice do far, it was hard because she didn't want to sit still too. Thanks for the tip! Hope to know/ learn more from other moms too! :)

When I was potty training my daughter we had the same problem, she used the pull up as a diaper and would not sit. We (my daughter and I) went to the store by ourselves and I had her pick out a basket and a bunch of books to put in it (dollar store is wonderful for childrens books with good pics). Then the basket went into the bathroom. The only time those books were allowed to come out of the basket was when she was sitting on the potty, and only then. Also, because I was a stay at home mom at the time, I would have her sit on the potty every 2 hours or so, and everytime I went. It took two weeks until she started telling me instead of the other way around. Whatever method you choose remain persistant and consistant. Don't allow her to go back to diapers or you'll just prolong the whole ordeal.
