I am 24 years old and I am a new mom. I have a 6 month old named Laura Bethany and she is my best friend! I wanted to find out if there is anyone on here that uses cloth diapers? I have been using them with my little girl and it has been wonderful! I have not only been saving thousands of disposable diapers, that will never decompose, from the landfills but I have also saved hundreds of dollars so far. I don't understand why more people aren't using cloth diapers especially when everyone want to be more "green". I could go on and on about the health benefits and the environmental benefits of using cloth diapers but that could take a while. I would like to extend and inventation to anyone who has questions about using cloth diapers. If you have any questions, like about going out, cleaning them or even the health risk with using disposable diapers, I will be happy to answer them. I hope to hear from some moms and maybe even convince some of you to switch to cloth!

Thanks,

Jessica

Also, the bum genius diapers don't require plastic pants! They are so convenient!

Kate: Wash twice: once on cold then on hot with an extra rinse. this will get them clean! Also, I use All Free and Clear rather than the infant stuff. I use bum genius diapers and they do leak if she has a HUGE bowel movement, but I just wash the soild clothes with the diapers and the stains come out.

Kate Murrey,

I use just cloth diapers and the "plastic pants" covers. I did have a few stains on some clothing in the first few months but I don't really have a problem now. I also breastfeed though and the amount of poop and color of it is so much less then using formula so I think it also depends on what is coming out of the bum. Now that she is on some solids I haven't had any poopy leaks.

Quoting Kate:

She seems to go up her back when she wears them, especially if she goes poo during nap time. They are snug on her. I have her in the plastic/rubber pants, but it never fails that if she goes poo, it goes up her back. I have tried to make sure they are high up on her back... I am at a loss. I really want to continue to use them, but I get frustrated.

I think that would probably happen with disposbales too. It is the force and her positioning that sends them up her back. Since disposables dont' come up as high it would probably go up her back in those. I know all sorts of babies in disposable diapers and they have up the back poos as well.

We use cloth diapers most of the time, except bedtime and when he's with a babysitter. Just because some people don't feel comfortable. It works great for us.

I am new to CD myself. My 4th, who is 4mths old, has been in CD for about a month now. I use all in ones, some all in 2s and snap in kinds.
I still use some disposables for going out and at night, mainly because he is BF and still poops randomly and frequently.

But my CD is so cute and I love using them!

I am due at the end of June and I was just wondering how many AIO diapers to buy. I think we have decided to go with disposables until our little man is about a month old but I have no idea how many cloth diapers to buy.

Well good to hear they work well in the beginning b/c I was planning on just buying a bunch of prefolds when I have a newborn. Cloth diapering is all about trying different things until you find what works. Glad I could help!

I will try one of those. I have been trying to use the pre-folds. They were working in the beginning, mostly when I was changing her every 15 minutes it seemed, but not she soaks right through everything. Thanks for your help!

What are you using under the plastic pants? A prefold? Prefolds don't hold in the poop very well and I think it depends on how you fold them. Have you tried looking up different folds for them? I didn't use prefolds for too long, mainly I just used bumgenius, fuzzibunz, or other all in one or pocket diapers. I'd try one of those and see if you get better results.

Stains them by leaking in them? What are you using? Is your fit not that great? They shouldn't be leaking at all!

I am trying to use them with my 2 month old daughter. I struggle to get them clean. I also find that she stains more clothes when she wears them. Are you using cloth diapers or the g-diapers?

I used cloth diapers. My daughter is new potty trained so we don't use them anymore but I saved most of them for the next baby!
