I have a 5 week old baby whom I recently switched to formula (Enfamil lipil). She is constipated, so I tried adding a little prune juice. I have also tried Karo syrup in her bottle. Does anyone have any other suggestions, or a different kind of formula that would help?

My doc told me to put molasses in my daughters bottles. Also he told me to use a formula for sensitve tummies, so like Enfamil Gentilease or Similac sensitive. But try not to change formulas too often cause that can be really hard on little tummies! Once you figure out what is best for your baby you'll both be happy!! So hang in there!

I say screw the home remedies. We tried all of that for MONTHS and nothing consistently came of it. We switched to Nutramigen with Lipil (a more expensive, but so worth it, brand of Enfimil). She has been regular ever since.

My breastfed baby had this probablem too. Our doctor told us to do the dark karo syrup thing but I didn't like giving my baby syrup- no nutritional value there. Plus it didn't seem to help. I ended up starting her on juices. 100% Apple (mixed about half juice half water) seemed to be the best, plus I upped my intake of fiber. Her poop stayed kind of firm but got more regular anyway. What really did the trick was when she started eating other foods.

Newborn babies little tummies aren't meant to have prune juice or syup in them. If you must use formula, switch brands.

Hi everyone I am new to the site.

I had a problem with my baby girl when I started her on formula and I was told to mix some brown sugar with warm water. I was very reluctant to do it at first but I had tried everything so I did and she filled 2 nappies ina matter of half an hour and after that I put her on S-26 Newborn (S-26 gold that is what consitpated her) and we we never had a problem again.

I have the same problem... He is 6 weeks old and I give him a bottle of water with some maple syrup, the fake sugary stuff... Plain water in between helps too. through an ounce in here and there. I found that give the fruit juices made him more gassy and in more pain.

I also had this problem the best formula i found was Nestle Good Start it is easy to digest and is very close to breast milk. She has been thriving on it for 4 months!

At five weeks you should call your ped. I have heard Carnation Good Start is very gentle.

i went to three diff doctors about my baby's constipation and this is what they told me to do. you can give a baby two ounces of baby apple juice one ounce of applyjuice and for every ounce you have to dilute it with one ounce of water, that is one solution that worked everytime, it took an hour for him to poop though, also the doctor said if he didn't go within 3 days you have to stimulate her to help by either taking a q tip with some vaseline and gently help her. but ofcourse before you do that you need to consult your physician first, when my son was contipated he was 2 months so a lot older than your baby. i hope somthing works for you, i know how overwhelming it can be, just hang in there.
