My bubs is on formula full time as I didn't have enough milk for her however she is 6 weeks old. She has quite bad constipation. I dont want to use medication for her and have tried giving her a tiny bits of Prune juice however I've heard a little mashed up banana works too. Is she too young to try this?? It obviosuly wouldn't be much but anything to help her...

The dark karo syrup worked for my little one. He became constipated when he began solids. I use the 1 tsp into each bottle. If you are breastfeeding you can add it to your pumped milk. I am a breastfeeding mom myself. Once your baby can have solids I have found that giving pureed prunes along with prune juice (warm) helps alot. Good luck!

My baby boy had some bad constipation as well. Originally we had him on Similac, but the doctor changed him to Nestle Good Start when we called about his constipation problems. He has been fine ever since.

Thanks, I wasn't giving her enough prune juice as I didn't want to give her too much. I will try a little more. I actually only use vasoline for nappy rash anyways. I found the products out there for nappy rash only made it worse (when there) as they dried like zinc cream. Vasoline is fantastic. No rash ever since.!!

no mashed up banana wont work it may make the problem worse, the prune juice is the most common method, mix 20 mills prune juice to 50 mills water and feed up to 30 mills per day for a baby that young. give plenty of extra water between feeds this worked best for mine, you can buy coloxyl drops from the pharmacy that can be used form birth, change of formula may work, warm baths, lower tummy massage, and each time you change her nappy use vaseline on a cotton tip it helps them to not tear when they go. eliminate iron form the diet no no rice cereal. apple juice and orange juice also work and whenyou put her on solids use pureed apples and pears plus plenty of fruit juice. suppositories should be a last resort. mine was constipated for 11.5 months but has been ok since being on pediasure after turning 1

dark karo syrup can work well. Just add 1 tsp to their bottle or mix with 2 oz water. Sometimes the extra water alone can help with the constipation. i would stay away from bananas....some times they are binding for kids (often times recommended when kids have diarrhea as part of the bland BRAT diet). If the Karo syrup doesn't work you can try milk of magnesia...1/2 - 1 tsp in the bottle. Hope that helps! My son has the same problem..i use karo syrup and if needed, the milk of mag.
