My daughter has had cradle cap for many weeks now and ive been treating it with olive oil and brushin it twice a day, the scabs are now falling off but her skin underneath is quite red. Is this normal?

That happened with my daughter as well. She had it from like 7-9 months and then it went away. We used the Cradle Cap stuff by Gentle Naturals, but to tell you the truth I think it just went away on it's own.

My daughter had cradle cap as well. It annoyed me so I did use baby oil and let it soak for 5 minutes. I would comb her hair to loosen the dry skin and then give her a bath. I only did that twice and it went away. A little bit of redness is alright but if her head starts bleeding and scabbing then I would worry. Also cradle cap is completely normal and if you are alright with it than it is fine to let be. I will eventually go away. It doesn't bother the babies at all.

my ped. also told me to wash with head and shoulders or an equivalent and that is cosmetic and doesnt really pose a huge concern. strange but my son got it when he was about 2!

my son has it right now. ( he is 10 months) his hair covers it really good right now so i dont worry aout it any more but when he was still bald on top i would use baby oil and one of the baby finger tooth and gum cleaners. i would work the brush in circles( be a little more gentle over the soft spot) and it would work great. ( his head would turn really red....from all the work) but it goes away.....good luck

my daughter had cradle cap. it just looked like scales on her head. i was worried about it, but the dr said not to worry that it would come of on it's own eventually. it did....by the time she was one or maybe over 1 it came off on its own.  i wouldn't pick at it or anything...especially if it's red. i'm sure it will come off in its own time. it's probably not hurting her...

hope that helps :)

My kids all has the cradle cap really bad and i soaked their heads with baby oil and let it set in for about 5 minutes then went through it with a "lice" comb. A fine comb. and it pulled all the chunks of yuck out of their hair. But it is normal for their heads to be red, as long as their is no blood. And i was told by the doctor not to 'scrub" her head...that it could become irritated. To just comb it out.....good luck!

The redness is probably from the extra exfoliation you've been doing...When my daughter had this I put her in the bath and washed her hair w/reg baby shampoo...the I would comb it with a baby comb at the scalp...then we rinsed...after that I slathered a small amount of my conditioner on her head and combed that in and let it set while we played and washed her body...just before rinsing her head i would comb once more...then rinse...I only did this about once a day for three days and then every other for one more week. It is gone and hasn't returned...although I do continue to comb through conditioner in her hair at bathtime...I'm not sure how old your baby is but maybe twice a day is too much...I also found it was easier for me to see if i brushed her hair before i put clara in the bath...clara's head was red once i was done treating it but not raw...hope this helps

My son had cradle cap to the point where it made all his hair fall out on the top and sides. So my doctor recommended either Head and Shoulder's or Selsun Blue. Well I chose Selsun Blue and it worked really well. I washed his hair daily for about 2 weeks and eased up and his hair is normal.

My son had very bad cradle cap. His whole head was a big ball of scabs. I used dove on his hair and while the shampoo was still in his hair I used a soft baby brush and in circular motions brushed it out do it a couple times and it should be better in no time.

Your Baby should be fine although I found that if I used Almond oil instead of olive oil it came away easier and was much gentler and didn't leave so much red behind (although I used to leave it on for about 12-15 hours)

My son had the same thing when he was a baby. We also treated it with olive oil and combed it. It did turn redish, but it went away. Your babies head should be fine!

my little girl has cradle cap...i use dentinox shampoo at bathtime when i wash her hair and then after i dry it i massage some babyoil into her hair...i lifts off a lot easier and keeps the moisture in her skin to help prevent more developing....it seems to be workin for me!

my daughter had it bad too and it was red under the scabs too. Just as long as it doesn't bleed my doctor said is normal.
