How can I give my son a boost on crawling? My son is almost 5 months and I know you are supposed to give them their tummy time but everytime I put him on his tummy he almost immediately starts whining. He hates it so is there something I can do to encourage him?

Sometimes if you put a baby safe mirror in front of them while they are on their tummy will stimulate the need to get to that mirror-by any means necessary! lol...if not a mirror, than any interesting toy or something that lights up (like a cell phone). You could also lie on your tummy facing her and sing to her, play peek-a-boo, or alternate clapping your hands and hitting the ground.Make tummy time fun, and she will strengthen those muscles and get going in her time. My baby is six months, and is almost crawling. He can get on all fours and take one to two "steps" before collapsing and inchworming his way across the room. We're not rushing him...just encouraging him to have fun and explore.

Don't worry about the crawling, its just something else for you to get frustrated on. I have lots of friends with babys and most of them didn't even crawl they all had their own way of getting around. Even my friend with three babies said that only one of them actually crawled the other two scooted on their bums for a little then when right to standing then walking. My son didn't start crawling till he was 8mos. old and he hated tummy time and rarely did it and one day he just started getting up on his knees then started crawling. Sometimes moms feel like everything should happen the same as other babies but don't worry yourself just let them learn on their own pace with lots of encouragement. Believe me they already grow up to fast so don't rush anything enjoy the baby time.

I too will have a late crawler. Sarah is 8 months old now and does not like being on her belly. She scoots on her bottom across the floor. It will come in time. They grow up so fast, I figure I'm not going to rush it!

My Daughter hated tummy time for a long time. i figured she would be a late crawler for it. I showed her how to get on her hands and knees from a sitting position, i had to do this a few times, but she cought on and started crawling at 6 months. So she wasn't late after all, she then walked at 9 months so crawling didn't last long,

5 months is still pretty young to crawl. My daughter is now 11 months and just started crawling in the last couple weeks. Before that she would scoot or roll or wanted to walk. She was really good with tummy time until 4 or 5 months then she started hating it, especially when she started sitting up.He'll start crawling when he's ready and then you'll never get him to stay still.

I wouldn't worry about encouraging him, when its time for him to start crawling he will. My daughter never really crawled, she kinda inched along like an inch worm, you just gotta remember that all babies are different and he will do it in his own time.

my doc told me to help exercise the muscles by having your baby lay on their back and bring their left arm and right leg together (repeat about 5 times) then the same with their right arm and left leg. I made goofy sounds and faces with my girls and they just thought it was too fun!
