i am new at this mom thing and i didnt know that i should be puting my girl on her tummy from the time she was born, and i think i might have stop her from being able to crawl caz she really dosnt like being on her tummy for a long time (5 min at a time) she will be 2 months soon and i think she should be picking her head up more when she is on her tummy. how do i help her try to pick her head up more on her tummy?

wow my son didnt start picking his head up on his tummy till he was like 3 months. i just kept putting him on his tummy everyday for a little bit then out of no where he did it. i was so paranoid too cuz i thought he was behind or something but they really do just do it on their own, with crawling too so don't worry. i know how you feel and another thing if your baby cant hold its own bottle at the time they should be its ok my son didnt start holding his own bottle till he was like 13 months.. they really just do it on their own when they are ready

Hey,

You are doing just fine, my daughter didnt like to stay on her tummy very much at that age either. Try putting a rolled up towl under her tummy to help support her head a little and shake a toy near her to encourage her to atempt to like up her head. If she starts crying or fussing just flipp her back over by try to do so a couple of times a day. Also you could try lying her on her tummy on your knee just put her head higher than her feet. Im also head if you stroke down there back it encourages them to lift there head up, not sure if it works tho lol but its worth a try.

most babies nive been around dont like tummy time and fuss cuz their necks arent strong enough yet so they cant look around. sometimes if u put a mirror on the floor by them theyll stay happy a little longer cuz of the cute baby no worries she'll be fine and do things as shes ready

I suggest laying her on your chest/belly looking at you. She will want to try to lift her head to look at you, and it is great bonding time!

Relax! It sounds like you and she are doing just fine. At 2 months my son wouldn't stay on his tummy for more than 5 minutes at a time either. Just try to give her a few times a day to be on her tummy and put toys in front of her and around her to get her interested in looking around, or better yet get down in front of her and sing her silly songs.

My daughter hated being on her stomach from the time she was born until she hit about 7 months. 5 minutes was her limit and she would freak out, and eventually when she could, she would then roll over. But at 7 months she started doing just fine with it and started crawling at about 8 1/2 months. So don't worry, whether he crawls or not you are doing just fine! Maybe also try slowly lifting a toy off the ground from in front of his face to get him to pick up his head.

I did the same with my son...it is really hard to start now, but it is the best thing to do. start with tummy time, even though she my cry, and make it just a bit longer each time. A few times a day makes it easier, you don't have to fit 20 min. of tummy time into 20 minutes! But don't worry to much, you didn't do anything wrong, your daughter will crawl or walk when she is ready. Some babys never crawl, but eventually they can all walk! you are doing a great job!
