Crib to Toddler Bed

Just curious on everyones techniques. My two year is rather short for his age, so he's not climbing out of his crib yet thank god! But he has a toddler bed so lately my fiance and I have been gradually trying to get him used to it, so that way by the time he is climbing out of his crib, he is used to it. But of course he won't stay in it! I know we still have a lot of time to get him used to it hopefully, but I was just wondering how other mother's have done this transition. He was the perfect sleep his whole first year, but since then hes a fighter so that's why I'm trying to do the gradual change. Any thoughts or other ideas?? I'd love to hear from everyone!

I put my son to sleep in his cot and then when he is asleep I transfer him to the toddler bed. (worked quite well), with getting him to stay in it. I also tried putting him to sleep in our bed on his own and then transferring him to the toddler bed. I think the security of our smells must help because that really worked. Maybe try putting your pillow or blanket (clean but unwashed) on the bed.
