About to have my first baby soon. Can anyone tell me if they have used "store brand" diapers, target brand or publix brand... Are they as effective and do they have more of a tendancy to cause diaper rash?

For my daughter I found Pampers the best. At two she has the proportions of a 5 year old, so Huggies just slip off. One of my friends HAD to use Pampers because her son broke out in a bleeding rash the first time he was in Huggies and she had the same issue with the wipes. Someone else I knew put her daughter (who was a prem) in whatever brand was on sale that week, no issues.

All diapers have a leak/rash risk. It all depends on the child.

diapers dont cause diaper rash! its leaving a soiled diaper on or trying new foods, teething and sickness that cause diaper rashes! so dont worry about a diaper brand!! diapers are diapers!! :)

I have used Target brand and I was better off using a paper towel! The only off brand name diaper I love is Parents Choice.

I love the Target Brand, they are very absorbant, and they are clorine free, so they are better for your baby and the environment. I find with the Target brand he can go longer in between changes so we can cut down on the number we buy. Look for the Club boxs, as they have over 100 diapers for only $20, plus you can use a coupon. Pampers and the new Luvs give my son a horrible hives rash. I also like the Fisher-Price brand that Babies R Us carries, they are like Huggies, but cheaper. My son is in a size 4 now, so 1 Target case of 124 diapers lasts us a month or more, so we are saving a lot of money my using the Traget brand. Good Luck!

it is personal preference same as jeans for an adult some diapers fit some baby butts better than others, we love huggies or target brand or costco brand but pampers an loves were the equivalent of wrapping our son in a paper towel. as for rashes it is the moisture from urine and feces, not the diaper that causes a diaper rash

if your son is leaking at night, try buying one size bigger diapers for at night, he is obviously peeing too much for the weight limit on the diapers he is wearing, my daughter never had that problem but my son did and we would just buy a case of the next size up and put them on him for night time until he grew into the next size all the time, which usually only took a week or two lol

I've used Pampers with my son since he was born. I tried huggies and it didn't work, but I also tried Luvs and I liked them. They're not as soft as Pampers, but they work. I stopped using them because they leaked at night for my son, but now I'm realizing that my son seems to leak to through everything at night, even the Pampers that I use to always use so that means the Luvs were working just fine! lol. I've heard really good things bout the Target brand diapers though. I'm about to buy some to try as an overnight diaper for my son.

thats actually not true, some diapers do cause rashes. both my children could NOT wear huggies diapers, there was something in them that caused both my kids to get severe skin yeast infections. and i know my kids arent the only ones, i have talked to several people with the same problem, a combination of corn starch and yeast infection cream is the only remedy. my dr prescribed every possible rash cream safe for a newborn when my daughter was a baby until almost 3 months before the nurse asked me if i had changed brands and when i said no.. she told me to try that and within 3 days a bleeding, horrifying looking rash that had been there for 3 months! was completely gone! same problem with my son but we knew what was causing it and never put a huggies on him again, not saying pampers is any better, my kids were GREAT in them never leaked or anything but the new drymax diapers they came out with .. last year were causing CHEMICAL BURNS to some babies....

really your only option is to try brands you want to try, see how well they work and how your babys skin does with it, just remember to change them often and if rashes still occur and cant be cleared up with a simple corn starch coating, try another brand? every baby is different and sometimes things that were great or horrible for another baby might be totally different for yours

we've gone pampers all the way... we tried huggies and since my son has slept thru the night right from birth, a good 12 hr night, he'd wake up in the morning and have little white absorbant beads stuck all over his bum. We were given that bag of diapers and thank goodness it was only a small bag because even tho they sucked we used them, we just only used them thru the day and put pampers on him at night. theres a brand here called parent's choice, i dont' know where you are so i don't know if you have them but those ones were the WORST!! they didn't hold ANYTHING and didn't absorb anything and it was like instant butt rash when we tried them.... We like our pampers...

Diapers will be all diapers and be full of sh** eventually I've tried all brands and all leak or fill up if your baby puts down a good one and they will. Either way change often. I usually start out with huggies or pampers because of the comfort thing. Some store brands, the internal materials clump together...a natural disaster waitind to happen. But if you do chose to go that route there is always diaper inserts that allow for extra absorbency

Katie, I first want to say Congradulations on the new baby! I have parents choice diapers for our 18 month old and has had them since she was born, and we ( my husband and I) feel they work pretty much the same as the rest of them and they are all most 1/2 the price. But, all babies are different and may have different reactions with different diapers! :D When you have your baby, I would try a small package of the "store brand" to see how the baby does. Thats what we did! :D

I used pampers religionsly with my 1st daughter. I did not like huggies they had lots of blow outs. Then I started to use Luvs as she got older and was ready for potty training. With my 2nd daughter i used Luvs and then tried some store brands and I went back to Luvs because they are way better. With this one I am gonna use Luvs or Pampers which ever i can get cheaper.

I was in love with Pampers until I used Luvs. They keep her much dryer than Pampers did. Plus I have found I can get more Luvs for the same or cheaper than store brands. A friend gave us some store brand diapers her son out grew and my daughter broke out. Her son however, never had an issue.

i sued pampers swddlers newborn for my daughter until she grew out of them and i loved them. then we used huggies but thought they were too bulky like and so we went to luvs and loved them. we tried huggies again dry max and they gave her really bad diaper rash were she would cry and wouldnt want u to wipe her down so we went to target brand and they work awesome. my daughter is 18 month and we been using them for a good like 5 months and im due to have a boy in july and plan on trying the newborn target brand right away unless given diapers.

We use luvs cause one I have never had a problem, huggies didn't seem to hold anything and pampers we used the pampers when the 2nd was born and then switched her to luvs. With my first we tried the Target brand once but my oldest broke out so we went back. Pampers work good but unless you go to a sams club and buy them in bulk does it pay they don't work any better than luvs, but huggies my friend and I agree that they are too expensive for how bad they didn't hold in anything.

Target diapers are the best store brand diapers I've found, I also love LUV's and pampers when I can afford it, but Targets are pretty good considering. Never tried Publix, don't have a store anywhere near us. I would buy a small package of different ones you want to try and see how they do. Don't buy Walmart's Parents Choice, they are aweful. Every single one leaked on my son. I only bought them once because Wally world was out of LUV's and we didn't have enough for Pampers. never did so again.

I am a mom of four kids! I used to swear by huggies...and I still love them! With my oldest two they were the ONLY diapers I used! I do not care at all for pampers! To me they always feel squishy! With my two youngest (twin girls age 2) my friend bought me some Target brand up and ups! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM!! I stopped using huggies with them and started them on the Up and Ups! They are very comparable to huggies! I do not have any problems with leaking or rashes! But all babies are different! You may just have to try a bunch of brands until YOU FIND THE KIND YOU LIKE BEST! GOOD LUCK!

We used Target's brand and they were'nt that great. It seemed like we were using twice as many and every time she pooped, even if the diaper was brand new, it would leak. I've tried Target's, Luv's, Pamper's and Huggies, and your truly getting your monies worth when you use Huggies. Oh and the only ones she got a rash from was Pampers, and was a horrible rash.

I always use huggies for newborns just because their skin is so sensitive when they are first born and cause they are so little I find the huggies ones are a better fit, but once my son was out of the newborn ones I started to shop around and try different brands and I use alot of store brands and find them great I'm not sure where you live (I'm in Australia) but I have used the woolworths brand and coles brand and I have also used the target brand and they have all been great I do however prefer the woolworths brand over the others, and sometimes it does pay to keep using the more expensive huggies brand at night especially if your baby sleeps all night and pees alot cause there is nothing worse then a baby having to wake up because they are wet or the nappy has leaked.

i dont like them...tried some with our daughter & it just seems like u use twice as many & end up spending the same as if u woulda bought name brand & also chaning twice as many diapers. it never hurts to try but didn't work for us. she never got rashes from them but they just leaked more & got full quicker. i also don't like luvs anymore--my sister used them for my nephew 4 years ago & they were great...not anymore they changed them or something & i couldn't stand them, they filled up quick & made lots of papery noises when they move around. i have found that pampers swaddlers r best for when they r tiny & huggies little movers for when they get bigger--but every baby is different so try different ones to see what u like best.

i think the no branded 1s are the best!! Then Huggies and last Pampers! I've found Pamper's break when fastening the tab and I've thrown endless new nappies away because the tab came off when stretching it to fit and the nappies were the right size!

Also, Pampers split too easy for my liking if they get even a tad too wet x

It depends on your baby's body shape. Both my girls were chubby babies and Huggies leaked from the side. Their front part isn't wide enough to go around their tummies causing the leaks. The one's I use now are one of the cheapest on the shelf. I live in Australia and buy the Aldi's brand. Huggies is 78 cents each whereas Aldi is 27 cents. I was very surprised that such a cheap brand could outdo the top of the range brands!

Some brands you can buy 1-2 diapers/nappies per pack as an emergency. Get a few different ones after your baby is born and try them for yourself.

I currently use walmart's brand of diapers, I haven't had a problem with them, although my friend used them for her son and he got a rash from them... but they're like $5-6 for a pack of diapers.

I went to a budgeting for baby class and one way they taught us to help save money, use the store brand ones when you're at home, then when you're out and about, use the name brand ones.

I tried using store brand diapers on my daughter and they make her break out in diaper rash really bad. i think it's because they aren't as absorbent as they should be and they always leak. So, i started using Pampers Cruisers and I think they are the best diapers ever made.

My children were allergic to Huggies and Pampers and my friend's son was allergic to Luvs. I love Luvs diapers becuase they are pretty cheap and can hold almost anything. Even the blow out poops didn't leak with Luvs. It really does depend on how sensitive the baby's skin is and if your family has history of allergies. Its the same with formula also. Breastfeeding is the best but some mom's can't because of medical issues or just cannot produce milk so formula works just fine.

I used huggies until my son got a little older then I tried the Wal-mart brand parents choice. They were the worst diaper I have ever tried. Every time I went to change my sons diaper and put a new one on the diaper tabs pulled off so I would literally have to throw every other diaper away. Sure they are cheaper than the other brands but not when you only get to use half of the pack and the other half you have to throw away. I think you get what you pay for.

I HATED the Target and Walmart brands. They didn't seem to hold nearly as much as the name brand diapers. My friend, however, loves the Walmart brand. It all depends on how much/often the child goes, I guess. Give them a try, and see if they work!! Best of luck!!

I have used almost all of the name brand diapers...mostly because they were given to me. Huggies for me worked the best out of the name brands. Pampers are scented...so if your worried about potential diaper rash, pampers is a good one to scratch off the list...or just irritation from fragrance. Luvs were the absolute worst! I am more of a natural mommy, so when I bought diapers on my own I use Seventh Generation, which is a couple of dollars cheaper than Huggies. I have never had leaks with the Seventh Generation brand. But remember leaks are going to happen in the beginning...baby poo-slosions will leak though just about any diaper. My sister used the Target brand diapers for her baby and said they were the best. You also have to keep in mind that all babies are shaped different, so no one diaper is good for all babies.

[deleted account]

My first daughter was allergic to Pampers because of the perfumes they put in them. Funny enough my second daughter broke out from huggies but can wear pampers! I tried the Target ones and they didn't seem to absorb as much. I also noticed with my first all she could wear was huggies she even broke out from the store brand diapers but my second one can wear anything but huggies. So if you or your spouse has sensitive skin watch out for that. Congratulations!
