like the other moms said maybe you should call your doctor, you can NEVER be too safe when it comes to you and your baby! It ould be braxton hicks or the real thing. Are you spotting or losing any fluids? If the answer is yes to either question get to your doctor or hospital asap. I spotted with my last baby and i almost lost her because i had a tear in my cervix that was causing dialation. But please if you are worried call your doctor, there is no stupid question or concern when it comes to you and your babies health!!

My third baby was a preemie, and the early labor contractions I had with him were completely painless. In fact, I went to the hospital for a completely different reason, only to find out I was contracting every 2-4 minutes. To me, it just felt like my belly was getting hard. If you're worried or confused, have a talk with your doc.

oh no! they hurt much much worse when you get closer to time to deliver. that's what i was always asking people and everyone told me i would know when it was the real thing. i never believed them but when those real contractions hit, WOW!!! don't mean to scare you, but yes, they feel a lot different. they hurt much worse. i don't know how far along you are, but if you're not close to your due date you might want to let your doctor know that you are experiencing early contractions. my baby was due in April and in January, i started having contractions and had to be put on medicine to stop the contractions b/c if you don't get them stopped in time, they can cause you to start dilating and once that happens, there's no stopping the baby from coming and you don't want them to come too early!! that would not be good. sorry so long. hope everything goes smoothly for you! being a mommy is the best thing in the world!!!

With my first one the early contractions were nothing compared to the real thing. With my second my early contractions were the same as the real thing right up til I was dialated 8cm then the contractions were much harder and stronger. So I think it just depends.Good luck!
